5.0 out of 5 stars Practical and Complete! July 1, 2011
Format:Paperback
I love this book!
Very thorough and complete. All the information you need is here.
I like the conversational style of writing.
Gives you 'self-assessments' to determine if you are ready to move on to the next step. I like that.
I like that each step of the carb counting process is spelled out for you. It really gives you all the tools you need to 'do it yourself'.
I like the 'How To's'; very practical.
This book provides resources to find the carb counts of various foods-websites, books, etc. It is not assumed that every food you eat will be found in this book.
It gives specific examples and ways to modify meals to make them healthier when eating out and at home! For example, practical tips for eating pizza!

3.0 out of 5 stars A very standard ADA primer April 20, 2012
By carb101
Format:Paperback
If you have any experience carb counting, this book is not going to add to your knowledge base. It takes a very standard, ADA approach to carbs: 45% - 65% of your daily calories from carbs, eat the same number of carbs per meal (i.e. breakfasts the same, lunches the same, etc.), estimate your carbs by 15 (1/2 a banana, 1/2 C. mashed potato, 1 slice bread all equal 15 carbs), and rely on your health-care team to make decisions about your diet.

The chapters are:
What is carb counting
Basic carb counting
Keeping track (food logs)
Protein, fat, and alcohol count, too
Weighing and measuring food: A key to your success
The food label has the facts
Carb counting in real life: How to count convenience foods & recipes
Carb counting in real life: How to count restaurant meals & take out food
Blood glucose pattern management: Fine-tuning your control
Blood glucose-lowering medications & insulin
Advanced carb counting (definitely the most sophisticated chapter in the book)
Cornerstones (sources of support)

Plus three appendices:
Carb counts of everyday foods (just 12 pages)
Carb counting resources (websites and books)
Record-keeping forms

As far as I'm concerned, this book should only be the beginning because there is so much more to diabetes control that the very basic information presented in The Complete Guide to Carb Counting.
