Complete Guide to Compact Handguns,
By Alejandro Alvarez (Caracas, Venezuela) - See all my reviews

Excelent book. A real nice choice for any one looking for a compact handgun for self defense. The autor makes a very detailed description of firearms and the most convenient way to carry them.

Excellent companion volume to "Service Handguns.",

This review is from: Complete Guide to Compact Handguns (Paperback)
This book is a companion volume to Gangarosa's The Complete Guide to Service Handguns. I've written an in-depth review of that book under that title, but everything I said there applies to this book as well. I won't duplicate my review here, and would suggest looking under the other title to see my review if you are interested. Short recommendation? Buy this while you can still find it.

Handy and well-written mid-'90s reference,
By Karl E Martell "Karl Erich Martell" (6000' above sea level, high desert, USA) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Complete Guide to Compact Handguns (Paperback)
Like all of Gene Gangarosa's books, the _Complete Guide to Compact Handguns_ is fun for the "gun guy" to pick up and read. Lots of short, interesting articles covering an amazing array of compact handguns that were available in the mid-'90s here - there's always something interesting to look through for a couple of minutes, and the book is handy as a reference for size, weight, etc. - almost all of this information is accurate. (I've noticed that others of Gangarosa's books contain a lot of typos - did not find that to be the case with this one.) This book is completely outdated as a guide to selecting a gun for carry, as the modern marketplace is profoundly different than the one of which Gangarosa wrote here - many of these guns are no longer available and there are many newer, more efficient guns on the market today. However, it you're a "gun guy" looking for a reference book for some moderately old school hardware or just something neat to read, this is absolutely worth having on the shelf.

REALLY A GREAT REFERENCE MANUAL, interestingly written!,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Complete Guide to Compact Handguns (Paperback)
This is a very good reference manual and is interesting written. Written so you can pick it up and read just a page or two and put it back down until you have more time. Of all the handgun books I have bought in the last year,'IT'S A KEEPER'.
