This is a great gift to give a new or prospective dog owner. It has lots of good basic information about the care and raising of dogs, and also includes plenty of information on different breeds to help match the prospective owners with the dog with the right temperament.

Although I would quibble that the book is not exhaustibly complete, it does a very good job of highlighting the basics that everyone should know about their dogs.

In addition to the good dose of information, the pictures and illustrations in the book are very well done.

This beautifully printed book from the U.K. is the best guide to keeping a dog I have seen. The first thing you'll notice are the beautiful photos of beautiful dogs, but the text is also first-rate, and covers everything a dog lover needs and wants to know. Like the "Cat: The Complete Guide" sister book, this book is a treasure to have.
