5.0 out of 5 stars The Complete Guide to Getting and Staying Organized
This was a fantastic book with many new-not the usual and typical-ideas for taking care of your family and home. I loved the fact that it was written by a young mom who is in the midst of that chaotic time of life. I bought this for my daughter who has 3 children but read it first and was excited and challenged by the author's new approach on getting organized and getting...

3.0 out of 5 stars It's ok
Nothing wrong with the book really... it's just same ole', same ole'. It felt more motivational than anything, and even that was short-lived.

This book is great. It's not an all-inclusive guide, but certainly was a wonderful springboard for my organization project. Ehman gives great references to other books that have helped her and they have been great for me as well. I love that she is very practical in consideration to cost as well. The book is like an accumulation of what she has learned through her experiences as a home organizer...what works, what doesn't, good ideas, things to avoid, etc. She has a very positive approach that is much appreciated. I was thrilled to have picked up a copy and reference it often.

5.0 out of 5 stars The first home organization book that really worked for me!, August 8, 2011
This review is from: The Complete Guide to Getting and Staying Organized: *Manage Your Time *Eliminate Clutter and Experience Order *Keep Your Family First (Paperback)
I have been reading home organization books off and on for almost 20 years (that would mean since shortly after becoming a mom!). This is the first book I've read that has really made a difference in my life. Karen Ehman does not attempt to provide a "one size fits all" solution. She provides thought-provoking exercises that help you to figure out your priorities and then gives tools to help with the solutions to your individual problems. In addition to helping to organize "stuff," she helps you to figure out what "stuff" is worth holding on to and what is okay to let go. Less stuff; less clutter; easier organization. This book includes all aspects of organizing, including time management (which can really get out of control with work and children); and kitchen/cooking help. Who wouldn't rather provide their family with a solid, home-cooked meal instead of fast-food take-out, which people resort to mostly because of the disorganized lives we lead. Ehman does not shy away from the paper problem, either. This is an excellent book and I am recommending it to all of my friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE COMPLETE GUIDE TO GETTING AND STAYING ORGANIZED, April 6, 2008

This review is from: The Complete Guide to Getting and Staying Organized: *Manage Your Time *Eliminate Clutter and Experience Order *Keep Your Family First (Paperback)
As a professional Family and Consumer Scientist (Home Economist) I am delighted to recommend Karen Ehman's book THE COMPLETE GUIDE TO GETTING AND STAYING ORGANIZED. Karen does a masterful job of breaking home management theory into bite-sized pieces so that the "clutter queen" transitions into the wise woman described in Proverbs 31:27 who "looks well to the ways of her household." With warmth and enthusiasm Karen provides numerous tips, strategies, forms, and recipes to create your own plan to get and stay organized. A special feature is the "From the Heart of a Kid" inserts written by Karen's daughter Mackenzie. If you would like for your family to "rise up and bless you" I urge you to purchase, read, and apply the timeless concepts contained in THE COMPLETE GUIDE TO GETTING AND STAYING ORGANIZED.
Pat Ennis is the establishing Chairperson of the Department of Home Economics-Family and Consumer Sciences at The Master's College and co-author of BECOMING A WOMAN WHO PLEASES GOD, DESIGNING A LIFESTYLE THAT PLEASES GOD, PRACTICING HOSPITALITY, THE JOY OF SERVING OTHERS, and author of PRECIOUS IN HIS SIGHT, THE FINE ART OF BECOMING A GODLY WOMAN.

This review is from: The Complete Guide to Getting and Staying Organized: *Manage Your Time *Eliminate Clutter and Experience Order *Keep Your Family First (Paperback)
I met Karen Ehman at my first Hearts at Home. And she truly inspired me to change my focus. My house is old, nearly all of the furnishings are hand-me-downs of hand-me-downs. Our family has a large dog and 2 cats (que the fur). I was always embarrassed to have people over. Karen taught me that it isn't what you have but how you use what you have. Having people over isn't about showing off my home as it is about hospitality. Now there are a few places that need some TLC in my house, namely the storage office and storage basement. She gives great ideas on how to tackle those areas in manageable pieces. I finally feel like I can get to them (I have been avoiding them thus far-due to being overwhelmed by them! She has great ideas for organizing your schedule and your kids schedule too! She takes you room by room to help YOU figure out what needs to stay, go, or move to a new "home". There are numerous places to write in this book so it really becomes YOUR plan. Let's face it-what works for your sister or neighbor isn't always gonna work for you. Is my home perfectly clean and my time perfectly managed? Nope! I am human, have I found some new tips and tricks to tame some of the chaos and clutter-you bet! Great resource for any woman!!!
