Good Book, but too Basic, November 22, 2001
This review is from: The Complete Guide to Home Wiring: A Comprehensive Manual, from Basic Repairs to Advanced Projects (Black & Decker Home Improvement Library) (Hardcover)
This book is teeming with clear, color photos and diagrams. It is a good reference for performing routine electrical work.
While the title purports it as including "advanced projects", however, almost all of the book is devoted to new installation work. An "advanced" book, in my opinion, should include more information on modernizing old wiring, and things to watch out for when modernizing, such as bad splices on knob & tube wiring, and even rewiring.
This book is really not much different from dozens of other books out there, but it gets 4 stars for its clarity and reasonable price.

I needed to install a subpannel next to my main circuit breaker box. I used this book to effectively wire four additional GFCI outlets, the subpannel, and to rewire the main pannel. The photos are clear, the text straightforward, and the organization great. The only downside is that the book isn't big enough. I wanted more information because once I got started, this book made me want to do even more.
I'm impressed. A very useful tool for those who have some basic knowledge, but need to make things up to code. I passed two inspections after wiring my garage by this book.
