If you're a pre-op wondering what sort of weight loss surgery you want and how to get it, or a recent post-op wondering "now what?", this is a good basic handbook. It covers a lot of territory, from considering the processes to living with the results. On the other hand, it is badly enough written that I found the written style distracting.

If you're only going to buy one book, this is probably the best choice. On the other hand, Barbara Thompson's "Weight Loss Surgery: Finding the Thin Person Hiding Inside You" covers most of the same ground, but concentrates on RNY, and puts more emphasis on the personal experience of the patient. It is also considerably better written.If RNY may be in your future, I'd suggest that you force yourself to read this one, then read Ms. Thompson's as a reward.

I've been doing extensive research on this surgery and have read most of the books out there. This is by far the best one, not only because of the information, but because of the excellent format. It is easy to find exactly what you're looking for. It contains diagrams and charts. It gives the reader a comprehensive look at the process and doubles as a handbook for patients as they have their surgeries and cope with post surgical issues. In other books, the reader has to wade through a lot of narrative or personal experience material; this one gives you the straight stuff. I highly recommend it.

The book provides solid information on various WLS procedures and lists of questions to ask your surgeon as you go through the process. Highly recommended for anyone considering WLS.

I read every book on gastric bypass surgery that I could find, and this one is by far the best. The book includes everything from the technicalities of the surgery to lists of questions to ask to recipes. I initially borrowed it from a friend, but had to buy it myself because I found it so useful. This is one book I have referenced again and again throughout my WLS experience!

This is a very useful and complete guide for anyone interested in finding out more about the surgery itself or for anyone that wants info after surgery as well. I read many books on this subject and this was one of the best. Complete, informative and easy to read. A must for anyone pre-op or even post-op.

It won't matter what stage you are at - this book covers every major type of WLS and the insurance process- it then goes over the actual typical surgery day and recovery. VERY ACCURATE! The Post-op section was great - I ended up giving my copy to a friend who had surgery the same day as me and am now ordering a second copy for myself!

this book has all the information that you would need before you consider obesity surgery, instead of looking up all the different things on the web just get this book. Easy to read and very informative.

I've read many books on the subject of weight loss surgery and found this to be the most complete and informative. I am pre-surgery and this will be going with me to the hospital.

This book covers all the bases so well that my surgeon requires all his pre-ops to read it. The information on how to deal with insurance problems is especially helpful. I must say, though, the frequent mistakes in grammar, the often awkward sentence structure, and several passages that simply make no sense are distracting. I have read several similar books, and this one is the best of the bunch.

The book was in ok shape. I guess I expected something better. The clear covering was peeling off of it and I do not recall this being mentioned in the description which was kinda a pain when I took this book to my appointments with my surgeon because the book kept "sticking" to my other papers.

I guess sometimes you get what you pay for.

However, the information contained in this book was a huge help in preparing for surgery and has been a blessing post-surgery. I would highly recommend the book if you are having any kind of bariatric surgery.
