5.0 out of 5 stars Solid overview reference
I've been messing around with body work for years as needs require. Self-taught skills are useful but I also like to pick up good references for better techniques and new products. This is a solid, up-to-date, overview reference on body work. If you have experience, it's something to refer to on an as-needed basis. If you're starting a restoration or trying to fix your...

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok, but not great
The book itself is not that bad, but how good it is for you will depend entirely on how much you already know and what it is you want to do. I felt the book tried to cover too much and so while you got a good overview and some details on what's-what with the various stages of body repair, it never really got into any detail. This book would have been much better for me...

I've been messing around with body work for years as needs require. Self-taught skills are useful but I also like to pick up good references for better techniques and new products. This is a solid, up-to-date, overview reference on body work. If you have experience, it's something to refer to on an as-needed basis. If you're starting a restoration or trying to fix your own car to save money and have no experience, this is an excellent information source. It would also be good for reference if you're paying someone else because you can understand what they're doing. Little things like metal prep and correct sandpaper grits to choose can make a big difference in your results, both in terms of looks and durability.

4.0 out of 5 stars Keeps you from screwing something expensive up, November 6, 2008
This review is from: The Complete Guide to Auto Body Repair (Motorbooks Workshop) (Paperback)
As owner of RECON Mobile Auto Body and Paint Repair and a twenty year veteran I wanted to browse over techniques and styles of repair and restoration as we were developing the super premium repair and there is info in this book to save you thousands of dollars. Details are important and this will help you know what to look for as you inspect the details in your repair. Highly recommended.

The book itself is not that bad, but how good it is for you will depend entirely on how much you already know and what it is you want to do. I felt the book tried to cover too much and so while you got a good overview and some details on what's-what with the various stages of body repair, it never really got into any detail. This book would have been much better for me if it had half the topics but twice the depth on each. Certainly you'll know what to look for if you're having body work done and you'll understand a lot more about the process, but don't expect to pick up this book and learn details about how to start, improve and perfect your metal shaping or painting techniques. I was looking to use a hammer and dolly set to straighten out a body panel for the first time - I honestly learned very little from this book, though it is a good general high-level body repair reference.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Beginner Book, April 16, 2009

If you are looking at just getting into body repair this book would be perfect. Although a few tricks may be learned, I found it to elementary for someone that has a couple years experience.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for Class, July 7, 2011
This review is from: The Complete Guide to Auto Body Repair (Motorbooks Workshop) (Paperback)
This book is great, especially when you are in an Auto Body class. I am still skimming the pages for info I need, but so far so good. Written in great step by step format, has pictures with good angles (for the detail oriented), and is a great "go-to" book.

Highly recommend... Goes hand-in-hand with any auto body repair class.
