I have all four editions of this book and have found it to be the most complete book for "diagnosing" symptoms.

The book is laid out wonderfully so that you are able to easily find what you are looking for. I highly recommend it.

This book is an excellent resource to take much of the "unknown" out of medical tests etc. It clearly details what will be done and what to expect. Knowing these things puts one in more control and makes it a less frightening experience.

This book includes a brief synopsis on symptoms, illnesses and surgeries (each category in it's own section). It is a really good resource book for general info for the layperson. In the "Symptoms" section, the page is laid out in a table. You'll get a list of symptoms, possible problem and what to do. In the "Illness" section there are definitions, explanations, symptoms, causes, how it's diagnosed, treatments, medications, complications and other tips. The "Surgeries" section includes general info, risks of the surgery, avg length of hospital stay and what the probable outcome may be. This section also addresses postoperative care and when you should call your doctor.

Overall, a good book with some of the more commonly treated conditions and symptoms.

It's fantastic for a quick look up if you think you have a problem. On each page for each different heath problem it has: definition, body parts involve, sex and age most affected, signs and symptoms, cause, risk increases with, how to prevent, diagnostic measures, appropriate heath care, possible complications, probable outcome, general measures, medication, activity and call you doctor if. The outside was a little worn, but the inside was like new as promised. Would buy from amazon/seller again.
