Book Description

October 2004
This comprehensive and authoritative DVD-ROM provides a guide to all types of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) – including military craft, NASA projects, and research vehicles. This incredible collection of official documents and photographs contains over two gigabytes of material – equivalent to about four CD-ROMs of information!

Projects and topics covered include:

DOD UAV RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT, OPERATIONAL SYSTEMS – including current use in Afghanistan and other locations, research plans, technical reports and papers. UAV's are defined as powered aerial vehicles sustained in flight by aerodynamic lift over most of their flight path and guided without an onboard crew. They may be expendable or recoverable and can fly autonomously or piloted remotely. UAVs are a key element within the concept of information dominance. Historically the greatest use of UAVs have been in the areas of intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance.

DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY’S ATMOSPHERIC RADIATION MEASUREMENT - UNMANNED AEROSPACE VEHICLE (ARM-UAV) PROGRAM – which resulted in the requirement for a long endurance UAV capable of carrying an instrumented payload to altitudes above 60,000 feet, conducted with General Atomics - Aeronautical Systems "GNAT" and "Altus" UAVs. Extensive and well-illustrated coverage of the nine major field measurement campaigns conducted since 1993 is included. Accomplishments include the first science flights using a UAV in 1994.

MILITARY UAV ROADMAP - This important military document presents the Department of Defense’s roadmap for developing and employing Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and Unmanned Combat Air Vehicles (UCAVs) over the next 25 years. Operational UAV systems include Predator, Hunter, Shadow, and Pioneer. Developmental systems such as Global Hawk and many small UAV systems have also been put to the test in recent combat and combat support operations. There are over 100 detailed illustrations, charts, graphs, photographs, and tables.

NASA WALLOPS FLIGHT FACILITY listings of UAV suppliers, capabilities, and tests of Exdrone.

This DVD-ROM has over 15,000 pages – many reproduced using Adobe Acrobat PDF software and Reader software is included. Other files are provided in their native format. There is no other reference that is as fast, convenient, comprehensive, and portable!

Our discs are privately-compiled collections of official public domain U.S. government files and documents - they are not produced by the federal government. They are designed to provide a convenient user-friendly reference work, utilizing the benefits of the Acrobat format to uniformly present thousands of pages that can be rapidly reviewed or printed without untold hours of tedious searching and downloading. This book-on-a-disc makes a superb reference work and educational tool.

This DVD-ROM disc is for use in a computer DVD drive. The files can be accessed from the File Explorer in the same way that you open files from a CD-ROM disc; the CD-ROM and DVD-ROM formats are functionally the same. Of course, this disc cannot be "played" in a DVD player connected to a television set. It contains computer-formatted data, not video.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dont buy this!, July 4, 2005

This review is from: 2005 Complete Guide to Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs): DOD, NASA, Research Aircraft, Current and Future Vehicles, ARM-UAV, Predator, Hunter, Shadow, ... Shadow Tactical UAV (TUAV), Dragon Eye (DVD-ROM)
This DVD has nothing to do with the US Government other than it has US Government Web pages on it. Amazon should remove the reference in the title "by US Government" as it seems to infer that the DVD is produced by the US Government - this is completely untrue.
This DVD has nothing to do with 2005 other than that it may have some 2005 web pages amongst the data - I could not see any.
Its title "2005 Complete Guide to UAVs" is very deceptive! There is basically no recent information off any relevance on this CD. It has old information and there is nothing that cannot be quickly found on the web using Google. It has some newer (2004) US DoD web pages with press releases of little relevance.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars This is not what you think, January 1, 2008

As the previous reviewer stated, this product is very misleading. I purchased it and found out it was nothing more than the publicly available UAV Roadmap (google) and some web pages hastily thrown together. My son could have compiled this stuff and given it to me free.
