Born in Birmingham, West Midlands UK in 1982, Gary Smart has always been a fan of all things horror. Smart has been a lifelong fan of 'The Return of the Living Dead' and spent his youth playing zombies with neighborhood friends. Smart was always Ernie Kaltenbrunner. A lifelong dream finally came true in 2007 when Smart became friends with actor Don Calfa. Smart organized Calfa's first UK convention appearance at the NEC Birmingham in 2007 and also the following year in 2008. Since their first meeting in 2007 Smart and Calfa have become close friends and are in weekly contact. Smart also became close friends with actress Beverly Randolph.

Lots of behind the scenes trivia I am sure will interest fans of the films.

The majority of the book is dedicated to the first Return of the Living Dead but I wouldn't have wanted it any other way since it's the best out of the series.
David Wright
Full color photos on every page and very extensive about every movie in the ROTLD series.

I have to say there was a lot of time and effort that went into this book and it definitely shows. They go from Night of the Living Dead to the last Return of the Living Dead.I amazed by how much I didn't know about the series. This is an absolute beauty of a book the photos are stuff I've never seen before. The majority of the book is dedicated to the first Return of the Living Dead but I wouldn't have wanted it any other way since it's the best out of the series. If your a zombie fan I highly recommend that you purchase this book and if you are a fan of the movie then don't delay, you will really enjoy this book.

This is a great book for any fan of the series especially of the original movie. It has a lot of insight into preparation and execution of the movies with a lot of name dropping and background on all those involved. They talk about what exactly went wrong with the second, fourth, and fifth movies, while giving those who weren't at fault credit for their work.
Some things that I would have liked to have seen would be more prop pictures, and memorabilia whether fan made or professional. I know there is a lot of stuff out there; this would have been a great place to showcase it.
In addition I would have liked them to take this opportunity to explain exactly what went wrong with the DVD's that have come out of the original ROTLD. Why has the soundtrack been butchered; even to the point where key fan favorite phrases were re-dubbed ("Send more cops" / "paramedics")? Why can't a real fan get a hold of an unadulterated copy of this classic movie? Maybe the researchers don't know, but I'm sure they're talented enough and should have been able to track down these answers.
All in all a must buy for any fan of the movie, do not hesitate to add it to your library.

Being a huge fan of the Return of the living dead films (Well, part 1 and 2, I never cared much for the others) I just had to get my hands on this book. And I am glad I did as it is a very insightful and in-depth look at the series.
This book has nearly everything you could ask for. Production art, rare photos, storyboards, interviews with directors, actors, makeup artists, writers and other people involved in the making of these films.

Lots of behind the scenes trivia I am sure will interest fans of the films. From the fun fact that the first film was originally meant to be a serious follow-up to Night of the living dead to the depressing stuff about Tom Fox trying to reason with the studio executives in charge of the last film while slowly fading away from cancer.

It is to bad there is no interviews about Michael Kenworthy from part 2 but I can't really complain to much about that as from what I understand the authors tried their best to find him. Aside from that minor aspect the book is perfect.

Even if you only like the first film there should be enough about it here to make this worth buying.

Stumbled upon this book when searching for any George Romero novels. I couldn't believe it, "am i dreaming"? Basically an encyclopedia on one of the best independent movies ever made, Return of the Living Dead. Went and bought it right away and just loved it.

Book covers great interviews from stars on the movies, to producers, directors, make up people, even assistants that would just hang out on set watching zombies get filmed. Goes into detail about everything it took to make these films including all the hard and bad times as well. Like actors, directors, producers not getting along. Directors and crew either walking out, replaced or fired on set. To even actual physical fights from fed up talent from their bosses. Theres dirt and i love it.

Theres so many behind the scenes photos from the first two films, that it felt like walking in a warp zone to the 1980s.

More than half the book is dedicated to the first two movies, and the rest covers the other 3. I bought this solely for the original first two films and enjoyed it so much, afterwards went and bought both their dvds to view the films again and listen to the commentaries.

If your a fan of the original ROTLD movies, or a zombie junkie in general, this book delivers!

Full of nice images and a working of the making of return of the living dead series as told mostly with quotes from the people involved.
This is a thick book, I received it about a week ago and have only had the chance to read about half of it. A must-have for any return of the living dead fan.
I also recommend the More Brains DVD, it is a nice companion piece to this book and is nicely done also.
