This ambitious work proves satisfactory in every sense of the word. Excellent illustrations with lots of color, drawings, charts, and easy-to-see diagrams make the work an effortless pleasure to flip through. Articles written by some old and new names in the horse world cover everything from the history of the horse to health and specific types of riding. This type of format is always a winner with anyone interested in the horse regardless of their riding style or preference for a particular breed. Of special interest is the address list at the end of the book that gives names and addresses of various national and international horse organizations. The softcover edition is well bound and sturdy but with the coffee-table look of an oversized hardbound book. Recommended for all public libraries.
