Super in Some Sections, Disappointing in Others,

This review is from: The Complete Houseplant Bible (Practical Handbook) (Paperback)
This is the first houseplant book I've purchased. It looked like a great beginner guide. It does provide good information about propagation, proper care, placement, and most importantly (for me anyway) troubleshooting. I had also hoped that it would help me identify some of the plants that I have in my home. I was able to identify many of them by photo but they are listed alphabetically by just their scientific names. There is an index in back of common names cross referenced to scientific names, but not the other way around. The common names aren't even mentioned in the plant descriptions. Why is African Violet listed in this "A-Z" guide under "S"?? For a beginner I found the practice confusing. It made the plants I was looking for hard to find and even harder to identify. So- its a good book, I'm not sorry I purchased it. However it was not as thorough as I had hoped it would be.
