5.0 out of 5 stars Hungarian Rhapsodies
Franz Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsodies are challenging, demanding pieces. Ideal for those of you who are advanced/experienced professional pianists. Not suitable for beginner/intermediate pianists because you won't be able to play any piece. I use this book for both teaching and playing. Good layout, good fingerings. The book stays flat on the piano thus you don't need a clip...

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible edition
Sometimes getting a Dover Edition can be a godsend. They're cheap, well-built, and often reproductions of good editions.

But this isn't one of those times. The print is small and the pages are tiny. It does not stay open well at the piano. To be sure, the actual notes are most probably the same as any other, more expensive edition. Nevertheless, most good...

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely worth the money!, August 2, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Complete Hungarian Rhapsodies for Solo Piano (Dover Music for Piano) (Paperback)
This is a great book for anyone who enjoys playing Liszt, or for anyone who wants some great pieces that are a challenge and fun to play. This edition contains all nineteen rhapsodies in one book, rather than two volumes, which is very convenient and money-saving. Also, although it contains 217 pages of music, it's not extremely large or thick, so you can take it with you about anywhere.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great buy, March 9, 2006

Very nice book, concise since it has all the hung. rhapsodies of Liszt and very good price (DOVER!). But, I have to point out the notes are smaller than usually and the printing quality is not the best. I would not recommend for people with problematic vision or those who want it for their "perfect" music library.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hungarian Rhapsodies, June 22, 2007
This review is from: Complete Hungarian Rhapsodies for Solo Piano (Dover Music for Piano) (Paperback)
Firstly, in response to a previous reviewer's comments, the book doesn't really stay open that well within the first few days of use, but once you've folded the book back a couple of times it isn't really a problem.

Also, the print is remarkably clear especially considering the low price, and if you find yourself squinting, perhaps this should be blamed on Liszt's tendancy to squeeze at least a billion notes into each bar :P !

Great binding (contrary to some horror stories I've heard /:), great printing, and Fantastic music.

Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Edition, April 20, 2007
This review is from: Complete Hungarian Rhapsodies for Solo Piano (Dover Music for Piano) (Paperback)
This book contains all 19 Hungarian Rhapsodies for piano by the great composer Franz Liszt. The book contains great fingerings, and is written in a good format. This does not change the fact that these pieces are some of the hardest to play. Definately not for beginner pianists.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful edition with beautiful music, March 22, 2004
This review is from: Complete Hungarian Rhapsodies for Solo Piano (Dover Music for Piano) (Paperback)
This book is GOLD!!!! It was the first book I purchased from Amazon and I have absolutely no regrets. The notes are clear, and it isn't full of too much editorial gibberish...but rather notes to help me understand the music and Liszt's intentions. Don't hesitate, you can't go wrong with a purchase like this.

But this isn't one of those times. The print is small and the pages are tiny. It does not stay open well at the piano. To be sure, the actual notes are most probably the same as any other, more expensive edition. Nevertheless, most good editions offer large pages and clear, good-sized notation. I suggest the pricier Henle or Peters editions.

As a study score, this is certainly a good choice. But to learn an entire rhapsody from it? I neither feel like squinting nor constantly forcing the book to stay open.

Since I am 14 and I am not that great of a pianist, I can't play all of these pieces, but it is fun to sit down and try to learn the ones I like, for example, the Hungarian Rhapsody #2. This book is layed out nicely, and has all 19 or Liszt's published hungarian rhapsodies. (The 20th rhapsody was not pulished). It aslo has the ossia part just about the normal staff, so the reader can compare the two. With over 200 pages of Liszt's greatest works, this is a must-have for all advanced pianists.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for the advanced key-busters, March 4, 2001
This review is from: Complete Hungarian Rhapsodies for Solo Piano (Dover Music for Piano) (Paperback)
This book is great. All 19 Hungarian Rhapsodies in a good edition. Not all of these are my faves, but some are just plain fun to play. I learned the #2 when I wuz in 7th grade. Now I'm in High School, I'm tryin to learn the #6! Again, this is a must-have for Liszt-lovers and for advanced players alike. Buy it.
