For Shojo Fans!!,

This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Drawing Manga Shoujo Illustrated (Paperback)
If you want to draw shojo (girls manga), you need this book! It has all the classic shojo characters, from the school girl and the bad boy, to the bully and the ninja. Each character is shown in eight clear steps, starting with the basic mannequin figure, gradually adding detail. Later steps include advice on inking, screentones and coloring. However, keep in mind that this is NOT a beginner's book, which the authors state clearly on the first page. If you've never drawn a thing before, start first with The Complete Idiot's Guide to Drawing Manga Illustrated, 2nd Edition, which shows you clearly how to draw basic figures and faces. Also consider The Practical Encyclopedia of Manga: Learn to Draw Manga Step by Step with More than 1500 Illustrations. (Practical Enyclopaedia of) which teaches you how to ink and color. But if you're ready for shojo, this book is an excellent resource!

This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Drawing Manga Shoujo Illustrated (Paperback)
This is the first book on manga that I've purchased. Although I've been drawing for years I've never drawn any comic/manga art. Using this book I was able to complete some pretty good drawings (the step by step directions are great!) my first time! But the book does not teach you the basics (different eyes, hair, mouth, ect.). It assumes you know how to draw manga. It suggests reading Idiots guide to drawing manga first. Still I found this to be a easy to follow book. And if you are not really clear what "shoujo" manga is, this book explains it very well! To sum it up.... Great book, easy to follow instructions, a pleasure to read! (Although I think I'll purchase a book that teaches the basics as well!)Happy Drawing!!!
