Pole Dancer Approved,
By Michigan Pole Dance "www.3dfitstudio.com" (Trenton, MI) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Exotic and Pole Dancing Illustrated (Paperback)
I think this book is a great reference manual. As a pole instructor - I focus more on tricks than dance, fitness vs. sensuality - I did find a few things in this book I would like to add to my warm ups.
I've never been an exotic dancer a day in my life so I cannot comment on other sections beyond the pole. I thought the lapdance and chair sections looked fun. This book is easy to follow and understand. I think some of the movement is "over done" and far too dramatic but (hey what do I know? I'm a pole monkey) if you want a book to learn to be "sexy" for your hubby then this a great book full of all sorts of ideas and easy to follow choreography. This is a good broad spectrum book about exotic dance. I would suggest buying it and looking through it if you are considering taking any pole fitness/dance or exotic type dance classes to see how you feel. It's easy sometimes to feel a little silly doing hip circles and rolls in class with a bunch of other women (but it gets very fun and silly!) I really am enjoying this read, the anecdotes are funny, the music list is great, this book is just full of all sorts of cute little ideas. The instruction really is easy to follow - this is the main thing that I liked about it. If you are looking for any type of advanced instruction this book is not for you. The most advanced this book gets is basic inversion. If you are an advanced pole dancer looking to be an instructor, this is a good read for you. You'll want to pay attention to the breakdowns of the moves and the sequences she explains them in. If you've never been an exotic dancer and want to teach, this is a great book about sensual movement - if that's the type of classes you would like to teach. I would even suggest allowing your students to borrow it. If you're a "pole gymnast" (I just like the term, that's how I see it) then you'll likely not gain much out of this book. I would recommend Vertical Dance Videos to you. I'd also look into books by Eric Franklin which discuss more anatomy and body conditioning for flexy, bendy moves on the pole. All in all - good beginners book, good reference manual for instructors, the DVD is fun!

Best Book and D.V.D. on Stripping,

I have purchased more than a few D.V.D.'s on stripping(books as well) and I have to say this is by far the best I've seen.
Stripping, lapdancing, polework and even (So Awesome!!!)chair dancing!!! The chairdancing and lapdancing instructions are worth the price of the book alone:) There is really so much info, ideas and tips it will keep you inspired for years. At least! The instruction in book and D.V.D. are very clear. You know exactly how to perform each move. No geussing. Also,on my stupid moves meter from 0 to 10 this rates 0. Everything is very useable and sexy. I've purchased at least 2 d.v.d.'s which scored high on the stupid moves meter and I really wished I hadn't purchased 'em. This along with the S Factor book and d.v.d.'s are the only ones you will need. Lots of stuff to play with. Anyway, Love this book/d.v.d. I would highly recommend.

Wow, this book is a steal for $20. You get a well-written, thoroughly entertaining and funny book loaded with creative ideas, suggestions and advice- plus a DVD with examples of what you see in the book. It's a great deal. Not to mention the author really knows her stuff.
I love her comfortable approach, helping reduce anxiety over dancing "dirty," etc. As a former stripper, I find that many many women want to learn how to strip/lapdance/pole dance but are afraid of the social consequences, so I adore her reassurance throughout: this is fun, this is good exercise, this is for you and let no one make you feel any shame about being a sexy goddess. Amen, sister. Also emphasizes imperfect bodies and how to make your "imperfections" work to your advantage and learn to embrace them. Required reading for all shy violets and anyone who has ever said, "I'm too ___ to be a sexy dancer/stripper/etc." Very highly recommended if you don't have a pole, if you just want some sexy moves to impress your partner or just look hot in front of your mirror at home. Also recommended if you have just invested in a pole and want a place to start that's basic and yet, provides room to grow. A masterpiece, a bargain.

This book presents basic and intermediate moves that are sexy and easy to learn. The DVD outlines all of the moves presented in the book and is invaluable to those who have trouble learning solely from pictures. Great tips and suggestions are given about how to do the moves and different forms of the dance---chair, floor, pole, lap and stage. I would highly recommend this book/dvd for all beginners!

My boyfriend has a pole in his house and challenged me to learn how to use it. So I ventured out to do some research and stumbled across this book. When it came, I watched the DVD first and was actually impressed! After watching the DVD, I read the book and it was awesome!
She not only talks about exotic and pole dancing techniques, but she also provides tips like how to wear your make-up, how to do your hair, what type of shoes to wear, and even trimming up the bikini line (VERRRRRY IMPORTANT)! She makes you feel comfy with your body since all of us aren't shaped like the poles we are learning to dance with. All in all, I was thoroughly pleased with this book and I would definitely recommend it if you're just starting out and need some basic techniques and a little guidance!

Ok for the curious,

Book and vidoe are ok. I have since purchased videos adn books which are much better.
Effective at showing the moves although the presenter looks a bit clumsy and not that sexy. Felt it was a bit cheesy - the dance names, which other videos and books are pretty much consistent this one renames with "student and friend's" names. Book is ok- for beginners and those just wanting to maybe use it for spice. For more professionally done woudl recommend Fawnia, or Edith Aboul-Hosn videos.

I like most of the tricks that this dancer does but it is way too dancey for me and she tends to talk down to the audience. She does do a good job of illustrating how to do the tricks though! I really prefer the S Factor version of pole dancing but there are no DVD's of hers that show any inverted or the more complex pole tricks. This DVD does show them. For that reason I would recommend it.

Most Ridiculous Book Ever,

This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Exotic and Pole Dancing Illustrated (Paperback)
First off the book itself has the price on it listed as U.S.24.95 so I don't know why the book is selling at $148. It's the most ridiculous thing I have ever read and my friends agree. I have taken pole and exotic dance for over a year and was hoping to learn more or perfect some techniques, the reviews I read and the price inclined me to believe this was such a book. Instead I got a book with about 8 pole moves in it and some awful pictures that I don't see how any woman looking at them or trying to imitate them would make her feel sexy. The first part of the book tells you to cover up your flaws and offers poor advice on "sexy" makeup. Then proceeds to again more photos of awkward hand poses, and ugly looking floor and chair work. Another flaw of the pole section is the names she uses for the moves, she decides to name them after her instructors... Pole moves have actual names and if you wanted to look up a move or tell an actual instructor what you've learned, the Jo-Jo upside down swing isn't anything. After the small pole section, where again you don't really learn what to do and the photos offer no help the last two sections of the book are about how to throw a showcase of your moves with your friends, but how not to tick off your friends by dancing with their boyfriends or husbands. It's ridiculous, and the little tips or quotes from students or friends offer no insight into the pole dancing/exotic world and often state that "men are simple" and "it doesn't matter what you do really, he isn't paying attention to your dancing." Overall a very disappointing book, me and my friends agree it's useless and was a waste of money.

This is not just a book for inspiring exotic dancers or people wanting to learn how to rock the pole, but for ALL women. The first half of this book is just about learning how to appreciate how beautiful and unique each and every woman is inside and outside her body.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, not to mention learned a lot of fun tricks too! Highly recommended :) |
