Great Book on Altering,
By
This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Altered Art Illustrated (Paperback)
Okay I won't lie, my art is in this book. I couldn't wait for it to be published and bought it immediately here on Amazon.com when available By the way, I researched and Amazon.com has the best price for the book.
First I checked for my art ha but a day or so later I started reading the book. Wow! I was blown away by all the wonderful information and techniques contained in the book. I have been altering for about 2 years now and wish I would have had this guide when I started just to get the feel of how to do things and get some of the tips Allyson gives you in the book. So, don't wait, get the book today and start altering! jackieb [...]

Creativity impaired,

This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Altered Art Illustrated (Paperback)
Homebound from surgery for six weeks and unable to drive my car (or play golf) a thoughtful friend sent me this book to aid in my boredom. When it comes to arts and crafts I'm truly deficient but here was this delightful book full of ideas that even I could master. I sent my husband to the craft store for basic tools and I was on my way. Through these pages I found my creative bent. Look for yours.

Great for Getting Started,
This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Altered Art Illustrated (Paperback)
I really enjoyed this book - I started scrapbooking recently but also wanted to try making altered books. This was a great start for me because the projects were very good, but not intimidating like some of the other projects I've seen in books. I have been able to get ideas from this book that I can really use.
This book has helped me get started with altering books and other items. I think it is particularly helpful for the scrapbooker who wants to try altered art.

I enjoyed this book for the number of techniques covered and detailed descriptions, but it was just that --- lots of instructions and few pictures that really inspired. If you're familiar with collage, and know the products and what the end result of the technique should look like, then go for this book. Otherwise, you may want to take a look at Roni Johnson's Teach Yourself Visually - Collage and Altered Art, which has a more readable and less cluttered format with lots of well organized color photos. I think the publisher did a great disservice when they made this with black and white photos with a small excerpt of color pictures in the center of the book. The double column format makes you hop from tip, to long instruction, to picture, to caption, and makes the format almost confusing. I'd recommend this book for reference, but get from your library before you commit to buying, or buy used.

This title was very useful to a novice like myself. I would like to have seen a few more completed pages, but all in all it is a worthwhile purchase.
