Book Description

The Complete Idiot's Guide August 5, 2008
Understanding Christianity’s greatest mysteries. Christianity is a religion of genuine mysteries, but there are many doctrines that truth-seeking Christians can understand without a degree in theology. This guide examines the teachings and doctrines that are Christianity’s foundations, in clear, straightforward language, including the Incarnation, the Atonement, the Holy Spirit, the Lord’s Supper; Jesus and his ministry— the missing 30 years—and much more.

This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Christian Mysteries (Mass Market Paperback)
The Complete Idiot's Guide to Christian Mysteries by Ron Benrey provides the reader from the point of view of a believer a comprehensive introduction to inter-denominational christian doctrine that serves very well as a reference guide to those tenets of christian belief that christians and non-christians alike find most perplexing. The short suggested reading list on page 289 is a very representative and authoritative selection of books on christian theology that offers those interested in expanding their understanding a more than adequate starting point. To this list I would add The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Easy to Follow Apologetics Tool, November 19, 2011
This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Christian Mysteries (Mass Market Paperback)
Is this book about a certain genre of Christian fiction? After all, the author writes cozy mysteries with his wife (as well as The Complete Idiot's Guide to Writing Christian Fiction). No, the mysteries here are the elements of Christianity that are hard to understand. Ron Benrey does an excellent job of putting them in a form where the average Christian has a better handle on these tough subjects.

Most of these topics deal with issues where most Christians believe in, even if it's because they're supposed to as opposed to having an understanding with (and as said, this book will help in that department). For example, the Trinity, the dual natures of Christ, the atonement. Some topics are those where Christians disagree, such as end-times issues, and on those topics Benrey takes an open mindset recognizing the differences without taking sides.

As Christians, we're called to share our faith. This book is an excellent tool in helping understand the faith so we can better share it and if need be to defend it.
