College Survival,
By Robert (Long Island, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to College Survival (Complete Idiot's Guide To...) (Mass Market Paperback)
My daughter, who will be entering college, received a copy of this book as a gift. I was flipping through and realized that there is plenty of practical advice here for parents to learn too. Dr. Rozakis knows her stuff and shares it all.I've recommended this book to the parents of my daughter's friends, as well as to my brothers, even though their kids have a few years to go before college.

I think this book gives it's readers just about everything they need to know about being a college student. It does so in an easy to read and engaging way. It is practical rather than theoretical and very easy to read and gives both the "how-to" and "why's".College represents a huge time of transition and transformation that few parents and students are prepared for. After working on campus in Student Life for many years I have seen how difficult this transition is first-hand. College is not all fun and games ... it is an incredible adventure, but a journey that each person needs to prepare themselves for in any and every way that they can. "The Complete Idiot's Guide to College Survival" gives us some great "real-life" advice on "how to do this thing called college". Review by: Nick B. Herberger author of "The Freshman 40: everything you need to know about your first forty days in college". College Survival Guide = A++,

As a current college student, I foundn that this book completely covers the gamut of the life of the college student. From moving in to course scheduling to the social scene, Dr. Rozakis gives tips for even the most apprehensive pre-college student. I showed a copy to a friend who will be entering college in the fall and there were tips in there she didn't even think about, such as bringing rolls of quarters for the laundry machine! Good job Dr. Rozakis... keep 'em coming!

There are so many good tips in this book, I cannot begin to list them. Dr. Rozakis' work has helped me keep my head in college numerous times, and I think every college student could benefit from this book.

I felt like I could have figured out for myself the things the book covered. Of course, if convenience is your main reason for wanting the book, it does have some useful info. I didn't like some of the unnecessary things they included in an attempt to make sure diversity was appreciated. It was distracting and rather annoying.

I was pretty impressed by the CIG College Survival--much more so than the two books touted by the review below. It actually concentrates on getting someone ready to go to college than "revealling the deep dark secrets of college life"--which, as anyone who's been to college will tell you, are not especially deep, dark, or secret. Better you should know to have a credit card and bring shower shoes. How much you want to bet the review below was written by the author or publisher of one of those books?

Let me guess.. The publishers of "The Complete Idiot's Guide To [ Insert Catalog Title Here]" needed to fill yet another hole in their catalog. Has anyone actually read this book? It sure as hell wasn't written from the point of view of a recent college graduate. Duh! The Complete Idiot's Guide to Buying and Selling Collectibles How is it that this author, who has written nearly 76 books, is an expert on just about every subject imagineable. I smell a rat! This isn't an author, this is a factory. Folks, don't be fooled into purchasing a book by an author whose next subject could easily be "The Complete Idiot's Guide To Writing The Complete Idiot's Guide". Use your hard earned money wisely, and purchase one of these books: Confessions of a College Freshman: A Survival Guide for Dorm Life, Biology Lab, the Cafeteria, and Other First-Year Adventures Been There, Should've Done That II : More Tips for Making the Most of College (ISBN: 0965608611 ) (This is a very well written book.) |
