5.0 out of 5 stars Unstressed in the Kitchen
"The Complete Idiot's Guide to Substitutions" enables me to reproduce great recipes any time, day or night. If I lack something in a recipe I'm following, I can just look up the ingredient and its best substitutions and then keep on cooking. No more last minute runs to the grocery. Really diminished worry about "will it still taste good?"

I plan on giving...

I purchased the book as a Christmas present. The outside was in great shape. But the inside seams were coming apart. The pages were falling out from old glue binding when you opened it. Very embarrassing! Apparently from being on the shelf so long. The inside of the book was not torn or marked. The seller did say the book had been new on the shelf. But ask how...

I plan on giving lots of these books as Christmas presents this year.

5.0 out of 5 stars Saved!, August 11, 2008

In the summer and on weekends I live 1/2 hour from the nearest grocery store. Running out for a quart of buttermilk is not an option. This book is my security blanket and has bailed me out more often than I care to admit. It is on my shelf next to the great classics.

I love this book, it not only saved my butt when i couldn'd find any fresh mulberries (the book said blackberries are a good substitute) but I also use it regularly as a food dictionary and general reference book, the section on dried pasta is great. Kenn Speiser

But ask how long on the shelf! It would have been more cost consuming and inconvenient to send it back at the time. It would have been lets say, "give me your Christmas gift back. I'll exchange it. You won't get it for another couple of weeks. I'll take it back home with me and get it sent off. Hopefully the pages won't fall out with another Cooking Substitutions book!" I was visiting family in another state. Yes, I did try to fix the pages in the book myself!
