The Title is Misleading,

If "The Complete Idiot's Guide" sounds frivolous to you, keep reading. My granddaughter at the ripe old age of 5 has a severe lactose intolerance. She also has a mom and grandmother who are both excellent cooks. The cooks have given this book nothing but rave reviews. They both use the book so much that I bought them each a copy. If you are looking for just one cook book to truly protect someone with a lactose problem and at the same time provide an amazingly complete array of delicious and attractive recipes (that are great for the whole family, not just the allergic person), I'd say this is the one. We have a library of cook books that fills one wall of shelves. About a dozen books of those books are about lactose intolerance and food allergies, but this one by far gets the most use.

To be honest, I was disappointed that so many of the recipes include soy creamer. I try to stay away from soy products as much as possible for health reasons. I know of no subsitute for this product so I feel that I can't use any of the recipes that include it as an ingredient. If you tolerate soy products though, I believe you will enjoy it.

Great! Great! Great! Even if you are not on a milk free diet these recipes are wonderful. I have only found one recipe i don't like and i have tried about 10. Great buy.

I bought this and another dairy free recipe book at the same time... I like the other one more, but this one has some great recipes in it... I am casein free and this book likes to use "vegan" cheese, which has casein in it, so I can't use a lot of the "CHEESEY" recipes, but I do really like some of the other ones!

Disappointed in this book as the ingredients aren't all easily accessible in our area. I did keep it because I think I can refer to another dairy free cookbook I got to find substitutions (LOVE it, "Lactose Free and Loving It! Learn to Enjoy Dairy Again!" by Mandy Kocevar) but that will take some time. Some of the recipes do look good, I'm hoping to find several I can make as is.

This book is awsome. I never knew that I can have so many choices of food to eat. The reciceps are great!. I really thought living dairy free was going to be a rough ride, but, it was so easy onece I got started. I coilden't put this book down. The best part is I can have desserts while my familty ate there dessert.I also checked out this web site godairyfree.org.

Very Little Real Information and very little real use to the Non-Dairy Eating public,

This book would be almot useful if you happen to live next door to Gristedes or Zabars...It is full of esoteric ingredients to which the average individual has little or no access. Most important, we wanted (and as novices needed badly) a complete list of non-dairy products, products to avoid when shopping. No such luck. The writers are so busily trying to impress the readers with their sophistication, they forgot the true purpose and needsl Sorry, but it was a complete waste of money and time.

This book of recipes was not very useful for me. I am on a Gluten Free/Casein Free diet. Most of the recipes showed Wheat products. Many of the recipes substitued dairy ingredients with "fake" cheeses. I don't care for fake cheese.

I share this book with my son who is also on a Dairy Free Menu. We can still eat food that tastes good. I would suggest this book if you are just starting out with a new way of eating.
