5.0 out of 5 stars This Is A Wonderful Lifestyle!, December 22, 2009
This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Eating Clean (Paperback)
My husband and I have been "Eating Clean" for over 5 months now. He has lost almost 50 pounds so far without starving. This book makes learning the ropes easy. There are excellent recipes and good, easy to read information about ingredient labels and other things that you need to know. This is truly a book that will change your life. I have been down the "diet" road on many trips in my life, but this is so much more. This is how we were meant to eat. I haven't been this passionate about anything in a very long time. A great beginner reference for this type of eating. Try it and be well!

5.0 out of 5 stars Starting the New Year with Clean Eating, January 10, 2010
This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Eating Clean (Paperback)
I received a copy of "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Eating Clean" for Christmas (an item on my Wish List), and by New Years, had read it from cover to cover. It is easy to read, the concepts made a lot of sense, and the recipes sounded delicious and simple to follow. To say that Diane Welland sold me on the concepts of eating cleaner was an understatement. I even went out on a limb and used several of the recipes for a very large party celebrating my daughter's December college graduation and commissioning in the Army--an important celebration for us. Wandering among the large crowd, I took great delight hearing people rave about the dishes. They had probably never eaten so "clean" without realizing it. I came clean and admitted that I got the recipes from the guide. Afterwards, I heard several people (including my 82-year-old mother) say that they planned to get a copy. It goes to show that you are never too old to change your eating habits, and in her guide, Diane Wellend shows how easy that is to do.

One thing I really appreciated about Diane Welland's guide was that she didn't preach, and you won't come away from it feeling that it is an "all or nothing" approach. The tips she provides show how to make both large and small improvements in preparing meals and snacks - even desserts. My one small criticism was with the index. Recipes aren't always listed logically. For example, I couldn't find hummus (a recipe I knew was in the book). I finally found it listed alphabetically as "Spicy Hummus." A problem probably created by electronic indexing software rather than an error by the author. A small thing when compared to the great information this book provides.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Little Find!, March 6, 2010

This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Eating Clean (Paperback)
I was looking to clean up my diet and started by checking out a lot of the latest best selling diet books. I found myself frustrated with all the hype found in them and the all or nothing approaches they seemed to advocate. I was glad to find this little gem. I didn't have to wade through several chapters of hype or read a bunch of banal success stories before getting information that was actually new or valuable. The first few chapters introduce us to why clean eating is a good idea, the principles behind it, and practical tips for being successful. The rest of the book was devoted to over 75 recipes. The ones I've tried so far have been easy to make and tasty. The author comes across as honest, not too preachy, and her writing style is pleasurable. Overall, this book is very usable.

If you aren't necessarily looking to go on a diet (which you will inevitably also come off of), but would rather just learn how to make healthy adjustments to whatever degree suits you, this is the book for you.
