Broad enough for us Idiots,
By
This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Etiquette, 3rd Edition (Paperback)
For those who feel this Guide dwells too much on the "obvious" to the detriment of the comprehensive, I might recommend something like the dictionary-size Emily Post's book of Etiquette. But I grew up in the working-class American culture (think trailer parks, country music lyrics, and "po' white trash"). I've made very serious social blunders not knowing unstated "rules" that many (most?) middle-class people believe to be "obvious". Two college degrees did not teach me these rules. Praise God for the Complete Idiot's Guide to Etiquette, which explains the "obvious" with sympathy and clarity.

A fantastic guide for the average person,
By A Customer
This review is from: Complete Idiot's Guide to Etiquette (The Complete Idiot's Guide) (Paperback)
This is a simple-to-read, fun way of learning about the niceties of social behavior. Mary Mitchell writes with wit and wisdom as she leads us through an area that has been neglected for too long. Learningful and fun reading. I learned (or remembered) much. Thank you Ms. Mitchell for this book.

A Good Practical Guide,
This review is from: Complete Idiot's Guide to Etiquette (The Complete Idiot's Guide) (Paperback)
I found this book to be quite thorough while maintaining an interesting and friendly style. Etiquette is still very important in our rather relaxed, modern lifestyles. It is not only for the elite, it if for everyone. It helps us to respect ourselves and others. This guide will help you understand and practice proper etiquette and feel far more comfortable and at ease in almost any social setting. My only misgiving was that it was very American focused (most understandable considering it is an American publication). However, whether you are American or English, there is something here for everyone.

Absolutely Essential!,
This review is from: Complete Idiot's Guide to Etiquette (The Complete Idiot's Guide) (Paperback)
This is a wonderful book and essential for anyone who cares how they present themselves to others. Etiquette is a dying art that definately needs a comeback. Email and answering machines have killed the personal written letter and thank you notes. For those of you that think a thank you via email is appropriate, you definately need to buy this book!!! Worth every penny!

I offer this book as a basic guide in addition to other materials and books when I train my private clients. It covers all of the essential situations and Ms.Mitchell gives a solid advice. If someone is looking for an encyclopedia of business etiquette -- there is no book like that on the market.
To learn more about business etiquette, one needs to read a dozen of books on this subject, including Letitia Baldrige's New Complete Guide to Executive Manners. Lyudmila Bloch Etiquette Author and Business Etiquette Coach "The Golden Rules of Etiquette at The Plaza" (guide for families and children) "World-Class Business Etiquette" ebook for professionals [...]

Not Nearly Broad Enough,
By SuperVestor (Sugar Land, TX United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Etiquette, Second Edition (Paperback)
I was hoping for a reference that would help me in occasional events where I don't feel comfortable with the "social rules". I've had this book for over a year and, way too often, it doesn't answer the questions that come up. The dining guide is good. Otherwise, it's pretty incomplete. If you're new to the American culture and are looking for basics, this is probably ok. Otherwise, find something with much better breadth.

This book saved my life!!!!1!1!1!,
This review is from: Complete Idiot's Guide to Etiquette (The Complete Idiot's Guide) (Paperback)
This book is amazing. Before this book i kept getting fired from jobs and boy this book opened up my eyes. Since reading this book i have become C.E.O of a multi million dollar company and own my own fleet of private yachts! Before reading this i was a white trash slob who turned up for work at KFC unwashed, unshaved and on one occasion unclothed (a long story but needless to say i quit crystal after that incident). No longer am i being caught out calling female employees "hos" or "bitchez" and no long am i being caught masturbating in work toilets. Now i am a clean cut millionaire living the high life!!!

This book is terrible. That lady gets into itty bitty details that would make you look like the biggest snob. I was looking for a broad range of common personal/business situations where proper etiquette is not obvious. SAVE YOUR MONEY and let me know where you find that "great book on etiquette" because I'm still looking.
