A Great Book For Beginners,
By
This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Fishing Basics (2nd Edition) (Paperback)
As the title implies, this book contains a wealth of knowledge for the beginning angler. Topics include: choosing and purchasing the appropriate equipment, finding a good fishing spot, understanding how fish think and act, bait and lures, casting methods, and fish identification and preparation. Fishing can be overwhelming to the uninitiated, especially when it comes to the amazing array of rods, reels, and tackle available. This book should answer most, if not all, of your questions about fishing.

OK, but missing a lot of the basics.,

This book is easy to read, but hard to find specific information. I am a Den leader for eight 10-year old Cub Scouts. I bought the book to help me as a beginner fisherman, to teach my boys the basics. I have been unable to find info on making decisions about the right equipment for the individual fisherman, for given conditions, etc. There was surprisingly little on knots, rigs, choosing hooks, baits, etc.

I bought this book as a gift for my boyfriend. He liked it so much, we've gotten them for several other people, all of whom loved it. Very easy to understand; I have never fished, and I could imagine easily doing it after reading this book.

I love this book - easy to read, great for the beginner but also has advice for more experienced fishermen that really work. I give this as a gift for Father's Day and birthdays and it's always a hit.

This book was a good introduction to all kinds of fishing. I haven't been a big fisherman, but am looking to get a bit more involved in the sport, and this book was a great tool to get me familiar with some of the lingo, gear and methods. It was a very enjoyable read, written in a very easy style. I would strongly recommend this book to anybody who isn't very familiar with the sport but would like some basic information.

Since I haven't been fishing in over 20 years, this book really does have about everything I needed in it. Sometimes a little too much information for my purposes, but more is better than not enough, right?

This is a great book for quick reference to things new and forgotten. I keep it with me especially when I travel because it is easier to pack than my McLane's Fishing Encyclopedia. I recomend this book to advanced as well as beginner fishermen.

Fishing Basics,
By Nino Brown "reader" (Wisconsin) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Fishing Basics (2nd Edition) (Paperback)
I read this book earlier this summer, shortly after finding out I would be spending a week in a vacation on a northern Wisconsin lake. Not having fished for over a decade and shortly heading to a vacation seemingly destined for a fishing focus, it seemed like the right time to brush up on my angling skills. The Complete Idiot's Guide to Fishing Basics provided a very helpful primer - and, not unimportantly, a quick and entertaining one. Covering equipment, basic skills, and basic strategy, this book allows one to quickly get out on the water and start making at least a rudimentary attempt at actual fishing. If you're like me, this book won't result in a miracle - no lunkers here - but it should lead to less wasted effort and even some success given good conditions (I reeled in a couple large mouth bass and more than a few panfish over my vacation weekend). Not for those who have a clue, but a nice intro for starters.
