Everything you need to know about being deadwood that can't be fired is found in this book. Yes that's right, live off the taxpayer with great travel opportunities and of course complimentary membership in the Union of your choice (for the first month, union fees assessed retroactively).

The fact that this book was even written is a sad story for our nation. Remember back in the day, in third-world countries when the way to a higher standard of living was through a government job? Well this book is the harbinger of the coming third world status of the United States. Industry? Skilled labor? Productivity? That's for chumps, buy this book and glide into that cushy retirement at 55.

I plunked down the money from my recently cashed welfare check and bought this book a few weeks ago. It has changed my life! Not only do I now have a government job with health benefits and a pension, but I was able to move out of my parents basement and into a rent controlled apartment. As luck would have it a gorgeous tatooed lady on motorized scooter was purchasing this book at the same time and when our eyes met we fell in love. That night she introduced me to her children and they each told me about there fathers. Three kids three fathers, woohoo. I can't wait to start a family with this lady and soak the tax payers for our health care and dental costs. Of course the dentistry is for me, she ain't got no teeth.

The book is full of up-to-date information regarding the entire process to getting a government job. It goes into detail about grading scale, different departments and the type of resume they are looking for. This is a good resource for anyone looking to break into the government work force.

Is there an Idiot's Guide to be a SCFOAMF? That would be golden.

When I think about it you could replace Idiot's with JoeBiden. JoeBiden's Guide to Getting a Government Job. See? Idiot = JoeBiden.

My Father in law really wanted me to buy this book, I did. It isnt that great. If you really want it I would sugguest going to your local library and taking out a copy. I would have sent it back but the shipping would have been half the cost so it wasnt worth it. Nothing new in this book and poorly written.

The Partnership for Public Service's home page says: "Building, energizing and maintaining a high-quality workforce is the key to success for any organization -- and the federal government is no different." They want to revitalize public service and improve government performance by getting the "best and brightest" to work for federal, state, and local government.

Now, that's a pretty good goal actually. We're always going to have government in one form or another, so we might as well have sharp folks in those jobs. But check out the book's Product Description:

"Bail yourself out with employment opportunities."

"In these turbulent times when private corporations are in trouble, the em­ployer that seems to be offering the most stable employment opportunities is the public sector. With The Complete Idiot's Guide(r) to Getting Government Jobs, readers will learn how to navigate the government application process to find stable employment opportunities available from county municipali­ties as well as state and federal agencies."

In short, PPS wants to get top notch folks into government, but this book is aimed in the wrong direction.

As a government human resources officer, I can already tell you that folks with top notch skills, experience, and education already know how to land a job, either in the public or the private sector. This book clearly isn't aimed at those people. They're selling these to people looking for a bail-out job, one they can get regardless of skills or work ethic.

So here's a thought: If government HR was run better, maybe folks wouldn't need a book to succesfully navigate it.

Perhaps PPS should write "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Improving Government Hiring and Personnel Management." Then send a copy to the OPM...
