5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic beginner's guide
I bought this book after walking away unhappy with "Golf for Dummies" (2nd ed.). This book is so much better, because it focuses on things a beginner golfer needs to know, instead of trivia we don't really care about. After reading this book I have improved my swing and hit as well as picked out a good club set with the help of the chapter on clubs. I'll...

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of time
This book is completely waste of time, at least not written for beginners in my opinion. Lesson's are not structured, does not talk about any basics..

5.0 out of 5 stars A great intro to golf for those who are just learning., November 3, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Golf (Paperback)
While Michelle McGann comes across well in this publication, much of the credit should go to her ghost writer who seems to have done an excellent job in translating a pro's techniques into layman's terms. This is a good book which is a valuable learning tool for those who are just being introduced to the sport. Subjects are discussed in a very simple, concise way, and at no times does the author speak to the reader in a condescending way. A great read.

I purchased this book to learn enough about golf to play a game with my boss. This book and a couple hours practice did the trick. It taught me all the golf specific jargon, the rules, and the basics of proper swing and form. Whether you want to play like a pro, or just play well enough to keep from looking like a fool, this is a perfect starting place.

Want to learn about the game? Interested in buying a set of clubs? Get the guide and find out about the golf craze from the beginner level. If you want to learn and want to get a before the course intro, then this is an excellent place to start.

Easy to understand and filled with basic know how information. Also guides you through the golf club lingo and aids in smart club purchases. If the golf game has interest and also intimidates you, you will appreciate this title.

Makes an excellent gift purchase for the want to be golfer!

For a novice such as myself, I was astounded at what this book could teach me. From grip to stance to swing to rules, every page was entertaining and/or relevant.

4.0 out of 5 stars very basic golf, May 7, 2009

it is written for idiots, and therefore, it's very basic. It's good especially for beginners. I don't think the author misses any of the basic subjects for golf, there are many things in here that most golf instruction books must figure you already know.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well structured & illustrated, simple & clear text & graphics, April 17, 2011
This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Golf (Paperback)
This black and white book contains everything you need to know to prepare to learn golf. Its over 300 pages are clearly divided into parts, 25 chapters and very short topics. The topics are divided into short paragraphs, and contain highlights and summaries giving the book the properties of a handbook as well as of a reference. So, after the initial reading it can be used for just browsing of only the important points. Golf for Dummies is very similar to The Complete Idiot's Guide to Golf. The former has a chapter on preparatory physical exercises, is slightly thicker, contains 8 pages of photos in color and more and slightly better B&W photos, and important text is boldfaced. The latter has more box notes instead of the boldfaced highlights and seems to be very slightly better graphically allowing very slightly easier to grasp the pages at the 1st glance. The differences are quite miniscule in favor of the former.

5.0 out of 5 stars Down to earth instruction for beginners, March 17, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The book really covers everything you need to know about golf to not feel like too much of a fool the first time you go out. I haven't had any experience before and it's helped me get enough of a handle on the sport to feel pretty comfortable at the driving range.

Lots of images help show stances, grips etc that can be hard to understand just from the text.
