Complete Idiot's Guide to the Great Depression,
By Beverly J. El A'mma (Spring House, PA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide(R) to the Great Depression (Paperback)
This is a must-have book for those who are deficient in modern day history. It is a precise, well-written synopsis of The Great Depression written in a non textbook fashion (ie not boring). It includes really interesting snapshots of life during this era.I thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend it.

I bought this book for only $3.99 and I figured I might end up getting what I paid for, but I was wrong. This should be the first book you read when learning about the Great Depression. The trivia tidbits are fantastic. The author manages to touch on all political sides of the 20's and 30's without sounding a bit biased.I actually am going to go back through this book and highlight all the interesting quotes and bits of trivia. I now know what Amos and Andy's last names were....Jones and Brown! Loved this book.

This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide(R) to the Great Depression (Paperback)
This book is an excellent resource to those trying to graspa rather difficult subject in history (especially for those who didn't major in economics). It is sure to spark interest in the subject and interest readers to further research this period in history.

This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide(R) to the Great Depression (Paperback)
This book is a great overview of The Great Depression, one of the bleakest eras in this contry's history. It is well-written and the illustrations are great. Even in its darkest hour, there was much greatness that was displayed by the populace of our nation.

It is amazing to me how the conditions that led up to the "Great Depression" are similar to what led up to our current recession. I tell my family and friends that I was born (1931) at the beginning of a depression and may die in another one! What was the "New Deal and Works Project Administration" under President Franklin Delano Roosevelt are now "Stimulus Spending and Corporate Bailouts" under President Barak Obama.I love this book. It is typical of other "idiot guides"--entertaining, enlightening, readable, and very informative. |
