Household harmony with grilling,
This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Grilling (Mass Market Paperback)
I bought this book for my husband. He got a new grill and I thought the book might improve his grilling techniques. The book is very helpful so far - citing exactly what to do for each cut of meat. We've tried only 2 recipes so far - one was excellent and the other was good, just not excellent. The book is very informative and the instructions are clear. I looked at several other books, but felt this was the most thorough. This is proving to be the case.

The recipes are decent and the overall grilling advice is good, but so is the information you got in your grill's owner's manual, and that came free with your grill.
Two features of the book are disheartening. The very first paragraph of the very first chapter displays an attitude towards women which is snooty, condescending, and surprising in this day and age. Maybe such a comment would have been acceptable in the 1950s. In this day and age it's a slap in the face. Second, the project suffers from a self-referential, 'hey-look-at-me' presentational style. You can clip out the recipes and do well ignoring this stuff, but why should we have to do so? I'll think twice before buying another IDIOT'S guide. |
