5.0 out of 5 stars The Complete Idiots Guide To Hypnosis
This book should have been titled everything you wanted to know about hypnosis and more.

Both professionals and non professionals will find this book helpful.

The material that was presented fully explains each step of the hypnosis process in an orderly and detailed manner. Several chapters build on the information which was provided in previous chapters.

1.0 out of 5 stars Should be called "Guide to Being Hypnotized"
I was completely misled about this book. It does not tell you at all how to perform hypnosis. It tells you how to BE HYPNOTIZED by someone else--that is, what to expect, what is possible, how to find a hypnotherapist and so on. It is not a self-help book at all; after reading this book you will not be any more able to help yourself than you were before. This is a...

This book should have been titled everything you wanted to know about hypnosis and more.

Both professionals and non professionals will find this book helpful.

The material that was presented fully explains each step of the hypnosis process in an orderly and detailed manner. Several chapters build on the information which was provided in previous chapters.

If you have a fear of hypnosis this book will relieve your fears. It offers the reader detailed information on the process, how it works and what to expect.

Dr. Temes provides the reader with a wealth of information on the subject of hypnosis. She shares her years of private practice to educate the readers in the hypnosis process and how through hypnosis she was able to help her clients.

Chapters discuss reasons people choose or should choose to use hypnosis to assist them with health problems, to break habits such as smoking or drinking and to improve their lifestyle. Information is given to enable the readers to hypnotize themselves.

I found this book to be easy to read informative, and in parts funny.

5.0 out of 5 stars A "Must Read" for anyone considering hypnotherapy!, May 17, 2000
Dr. Temes wrote what I believe to be the best book ever written for the consumer who wishes to consider hypnosis or hypnotherapy as a modality for health care or self-improvement!

Her book is both comprehensive and easy to understand, a very rare combination to be found in any book; and it is filled with valuable information for anyone considering investing in hypnosis or hypnotherapy. While the author has very credible scientific credentials and professional experience, her information is served to the reader in an objective manner, with the goal of helping the consumer to make an informed choice. She empowers the consumer with important information to help those who desire hypnosis or hypnotherapy to choose wisely, and does so without bias either for or against "lay hypnotists" who lack academic credentials.

Whether you are a consumer considering hypnotherapy, a student of hypnosis, OR a practicing professional, this is a "must read" book. In presenting this important information, Roberta Temes has provided a GREAT SERVICE to the general public!

1.0 out of 5 stars Positive thinkung, not hypnosis, February 6, 2001
By
Bob (Tennessee) - See all my reviews
The book is well written if a guide for positive thinking, and basics of self hypnotism. It is weak in the areas of induction, depth of trance, and hypnotic phenomena. The positive thinking approach suggested is valid, but barely touches on hypnotism in many chapters.

3.0 out of 5 stars Lightweight?, July 19, 2005
This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Hypnosis, 2nd Edition (Paperback)
Makes for a pleasant albeit bloated read. My impression is that most people would do well beginning with self-hypnosis and many would be fine sticking just to self-hypnosis. Temes' focus seems to be on wide coverage, i.e. showing all the things that hypnosis may help with.

Another book that gives wide coverage while sticking to self-hypnosis is Allman's and Lambrou's Self-Hypnosis: The Complete Manual for Health and Self-Change. But Allman and Lambrou seem to provide more substance.

I've enjoyed Leslie LeCron ("Self-Hypnosis: The Technique and its use in Daily Living" and "The Complete Guide to Hypnosis"). Self-talk, visualization, quiet sitting and common sense comprise a lot of self-hypnosis, so once you've realized that, your dependence on any hypnosis book will drop, but some writers do share useful techniques and focus. Hypnosis books tend to be inexpensive so you can try out a few to find the one(s) that connect best with you. For me, this book by Temes tends toward being too wide and not deep enough. Whereas I just have to pick up LeCron's "Self-Hypnosis" book and I. to my surprise, immediately involuntarily find myself breathing slower and deeper, as well as feeling calmer. But there's no magic, it's just that it's the book I got into self-hypnosis with and trust.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent overview of hypnosis for the lay reader, November 19, 1999
By A Customer
As a practicing psychologist who uses hypnosis with clients who present a variety of problems, I was pleased to see this new book. Dr. Temes has written a comprehensive, well documented, easy to read, and authoritative review of the many ways in which hypnosis can be of benefit. I can highly recommend it. It is head and shoulders above the others written for the same readership.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tremendous!, January 14, 2000
Fantastic basic information, presented in a non threatening fashion for all readership. I read this new addition to my library several times already during the past month! An easy read, that I highly recommend for all those who are interested in hypnosis at any level. Temes, does a great job of simplifying difficult concepts!

5.0 out of 5 stars This idiot can understand this book, March 18, 2000
I am a very busy health professional and have limited time to read material that is so technical that you must work your way slowly through it. Dr Teemes is my kind of writer. She gets the message across is a simple but well thought out manner. I may try some self hypnosis now.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Introduction to Hypnosis, March 17, 2004
If you don't know much about hypnosis, The Complete Idiot's Guide to Hypnosis is a great introduction to self-hypnosis and choosing a hypnotist or hypnotherapist. The author dispels many common myths and provides a good historical overview. The portions of the book on self-hypnosis probably aren't comprehensive enough to allow for mastery, but they are certainly a good beginning. The strongest parts of the book deal with addressing common fears associated with being subjected to hypnosis. Like all Idiot's Guides, it is a pleasant and fast-moving book to read...quite enjoyable.

You'll need other books in order to actually do much self-hypnosis. This book is long on verbage and low on actual useful techniques.
