Complete, simple and easy to read,
By Running (United States of America) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Investing, 3E (Mass Market Paperback)
In summary, this book is very beneficial. It has the textbook information without the textbook boredom. It simply has an object, side notes and a short summary at the end of each chapter. The chapters aren't very long and it's very easy to read. The whole book itself is divided in only 6 parts, and you'll guaranteed to know stocks A to Z by the end of the book. You'll also learn about allocations, assets, mutual bonds, cash flow and much more. I can't emphasize enough how resourceful this book is. I'm not saying it's the best book on investing since this is only my first investing book I've read but I'm sure it's rare to find a better book than this.

Money Makes Sense Now,
This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Investing, 3E (Mass Market Paperback)
After graduating college, I realized I should have taken classes on investing and money management. Working full time, I couldn't go back to school. My only option was to begin reading. I came across this book in the book store and decided to give it a try. Well, to say the least, I couldn't be any more thrilled about this book. I felt I actually took an entire college course on investing. The writing was clear and the equations and charts were well explained and very useful. I now have the knowledge and desire to reshape my financial future. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to change their life for the better.

The Skies Have Parted ...,

I recently began investing my own money and ordered this book on the suggestion of a friend. For the first time, I actually understand why stocks behave the way they do and how to choose different mutual funds. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to start managing their own money or simply understand more about where your assets are invested.

Warning: Proceed at your own risk!,
By Phil Phlyer (Chicago) - See all my reviews

Have read only as far as page 18. Formula for Future Value of an Annuity on this page is wrong. Also, calculation of the sample FVA at bottom of this page makes no sense at all...doesn't even agree with the incorrect formula stated. If something this basic is in error, I seriously question whether one should trust this book.

Not for Idiots...,

This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Investing, 3E (Mass Market Paperback)
I found this book to be lacking in many areas. Even though it has the Idiots Guide label on it, I did find it very confusing at times. I am an Aerospace Engineer (which doesn't mean I'm not an idiot, but lends credibility to me, I hope) and I was frustrated by many parts of this book. Many terms are used without explanation. Terms such as "securities", "dividends", and "liability". I have a general idea of what these terms mean, but the book gave no explanation what so ever before using them. Also, the risk assessment quiz was very poorly worded and difficult to understand.
Overall, I would not recommend this book. I hear the Investing for Dummies book is better, but I haven't gotten a chance to read that one yet.

I am a young professional starting out in the job market. This book has given me the tools to look at my financial decisions rationally. I now know I have a lot of control over my money and I have the tools to start investing for the future, whatever that may be!

I have only started this book. It is an easy to read format and has some good basics on investing. If you're like me, you will try out the formulas they give you to test out your own numbers. I am having a hard time getting past page 18 because they have the wrong formula for the future value of an annuity. It's not hard to find the real formula with a quick online search, but it makes me wonder what else they missed in the editing proces... Now I'll have to double check all their figures. Oh well, nice to have multiple perspectives anyway, I guess.

Complete Guide to Investing,

I purchased this book in preparation for a long flight cross country. The book was written in an easy to understand style and I found the content to be exactly what I was looking for. I was disappointed in the many grammatical errors and the botched calculation on page 18 made me question the editor's credibility, but overall I would recommend this book to someone seeking a basis in investing.

I'm 24 years old and I wanted to read something easy and informative about investing. I used this book to help me while I set up my IRA account and I learned so much. This book covers all the basics and tells you things that you need to know before investing. If you know nothing about this stuff, check it out.
