5.0 out of 5 stars Lean, Mean Guide to Lean and Six Sigma
Of all the titles on lean six sigma, this is one of the few that delivers on the promise of a clear, easy-to-understand explanation of this common sense approach to driving out defects. The content is comprehensive and logically organized, and the style is user-friendly, without the usual thunderstorm of jargon and consultanese. Thank you for making lean six sigma...

3.0 out of 5 stars What this genre really needs...
Twenty-five years ago I got interested in data-based decision making and management (back when it was called TQM). Recently, I joined the legions of those looking for work, and I kept bumping into "Lean Six Sigma" and "Black Belts," etc. So I bought this book to find out what all the buzz was about. After reading it I conclude it is just that - buzz. It is basically TQM...

4.0 out of 5 stars Lean Six Sigma Approach for Manufacturing & Service Systems, November 28, 2007

The book is excellent for the Six Sigma approach for manufacturing and service systems. My only comment is that some mistakes exist in the book for the definition of mathematical symbols. For example on Page 38, the authors use the "summation sign" to define the symbol for the "standard deviation." This is incorrect. Therefore, I will give this book a four-star instead of a five-star.

I will still recommend it for anybody interested in Lean Six Sigma.

5.0 out of 5 stars great lean six sigma roadmap, August 20, 2007
This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Lean Six Sigma (Mass Market Paperback)
This book spoon-feeds Lean Six Sigma more effectively than I have seen. It is obvious that the authors took great care to create their graphics, and to present all the knowledge and tools that are needed to actually work with and use Lean Six Sigma. The book has an excellent roadmap in it with detailed steps showing the deployment leader what to do and when, as well as the practitioner, or person who is leading Lean Six Sigma projects. So I not only got the roadmap and steps, but I learned the tools I needed to apply each step of the way. Kudos to the authors.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not sure about the title, December 24, 2009

I'd give this book 3.5 stars rather than 4 if I could. There are good things about it, but there are also bad. My main complaint is that while I appreciate the level of detail, that's also the book's major downfall. It's not consistent. Some parts ARE for "idiots," but others aren't. I like that the authors repeat certain terms and concepts to make sure readers understand them, but they also gloss over other things that they must think either the reader already knows (e.g., some statistics concepts, symbols in tables) or they don't think are important. A more minor point I have to make is that there are terms in the text that aren't listed in the index or glossary. All that said, I know it's impossible to make one book all things for all people.

I had been looking into taking courses to get a certification, but chose to check it out in paperback first. I'm glad I did. This book is great for someone thinking about becoming a Lean Six Sigma participant. It was also helpful in explaining the difference between Six Sigma and Lean. If you don't know what it's all about - this is a book you want to check out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy Reading Reference Guide, April 11, 2009

"The Complete Idiot's Guide to Lean Six Sigma (CIGTLSS) is an easy reading guide for those who are new to Lean Six Sigma, as well as for those who have been practicing Continuous Improvement methods for years. The straightforward approach to what some consider complex tools and methods is refreshing. The graphics make it easy to understand the concepts, and the examples further drive the points. The "Least You Need to Know" feature at the end of each chapter assures that you have grasped the essential topics. Highly recommended for all of those interested in applying Lean Six Sigma to their business."

4.0 out of 5 stars Beginners guide to Lean Six Sigma, March 28, 2010

This is an excellent introduction to Lean Six Sigma. My organization is going down the road to Lean Six Sigma. I purchased this book to get a jump on what Lean Six Sigma is really supposed to be, which is not always what we get in training. This book does an excellent job at introducing the language of Lean Six Sigma. The only reason I didn't give it five stars was that it hit some of the implementing processes at too high a level. I will need to get a book on the other implementing systems to understand the processes. But, this will give me a good foundation in Lean Six Sigma that will be a benefit when my organization jumps into it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best Lean Sigma Reference Book!, December 6, 2011
This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Lean Six Sigma (Mass Market Paperback)
This easy to read and simplistic book on Lean Sigma has all of the foundational tools you need. There is a knowledge gap in the industry between Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing. The concept of Lean Sigma is somewhat new and this book is the best fundamental book I have seen that bridges this gap of understanding. It will give anyone the tools to make their organization perform more efficiently, which changes your bottom line. If you want to increase your profits and provide consistent quality products to your customers, this is a "must have" book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good roadmap to help you get to the end, April 13, 2009
This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Lean Six Sigma (Mass Market Paperback)
The roadmap proposed by this book is easy to follow and gives you a good integration between lean and six sigma. One other thing that I like is that it's very graphical to help people that are starting with this journey. This is a good reference for Champions and Belts that have been involved in six sigma for some time and are looking on how to integrate lean. It is also a nice place to start for Belts that are just starting their first LSS projects; put attention to the "Performance Pitfall" and "Lean Six Sigma Wisdom" boxes, these are good things to keep in mind.
