5.0 out of 5 stars The Complete Idiot's Guide to Long-Term Care Planning
As a retired teacher, I decided to begin a new career where I could use my skills in a seminar format to help others plan for retirement. During question and answer periods, the topic of long-term care would always be brought up. I soon learned that if my seminar was to be worthwhile, I would need to be educated in all areas of long-term care planning. During the past...

2.0 out of 5 stars Great Pitch for Long Term Care Insurance (Not so great on other issues.)
I am a huge fan of the Dummies series. I own this book and had great hopes for a nice, clear, cogent and get-down-to business book on the subject of long-term care planning. Man was I disappointed! This book should instead be called The Complete Idiot's Guide to Long-Term Care Insurance. If you are looking for information on long-term care insurance then this is the book...

During the past years I have taken courses, listened to lectures, and have read much literature on the subject, but nothing has helped me more than Marilee Driscoll's ...Guide to Long-term care planning. Marilee's guide is thorough, and written in a style that makes an otherwise complex topic clear and easy to understand. Her sense of humor permeates every page, which makes reading a joy. This book has become my primary reference. Recently, I attempted to purchase some of Ms. Driscoll's products via the internet. I called a phone number, and a recorded voice indicated that someone from the company would return my call. To my delight, it was returned by Marilee herself. She enthusiastically answered all my questions, and gave me some wonderful suggestions and advice. It was like conversing with someone I had known my whole life. Her upbeat personality which shines through in her literature, is available in buckets when you speak with her. In short; I loved reading her. I loved speaking with her. I can't wait to see her video, hear her audio, and use her other products. I whole-heartedly recommend her book Complete Idiot's Guide to Long-Term Care Planning, which has become a "Bible" to me. It is definitely worthy of a 5 star rating, and more.

5.0 out of 5 stars I can't put this book down!, October 24, 2002

Who would have thought that a generally very dry subject could become downright fascinating? I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I took this book on a camping trip and read it by the campfire. When it got too cold, I actually read it in my sleeping bag by flashlight. I would recommend this book to anyone that has ever considered long term care...whether for themselves or a loved one. If you are a financial professional, you should not miss this book. It brings together information that would take 20 years in the financial services industry to accumulate on your own. All that, and somehow Marilee Driscoll manages to address a generally somber subject with a healthy dose of tasteful humor.

What a great reference book for a subject that we find so hard to face! Marilee Driscoll's book not only explains all of the options that are available in a concise, easy to understand way, but you can also pick an area that you need to research without starting at the beginning of the book. I originally bought the book to see what the options are for my parents, but it also made me think about starting to plan for my own long-term care. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to make sure that they will be prepared to get the care that they want!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Long Term Care Insurance Information Gold Mine, November 19, 2005
This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Long-Term Care Planning (Paperback)
Everything you need to know to help you wade through the morass of details involved in choosing long term care insurance. The author has done an excellent job of organizing her subject and making it easy to navigate from one topic to another. Although is is best to read the book from begininng to end, it is designed such that the reader can skip sections and hone in on the subjects of primary interest. All in all an excellent, thorough, and easy to understand treament of a relatively complicated subject.

5.0 out of 5 stars Long Term Care Lessons for the Long Term Care Nurse, May 25, 2006

I am an RN who works with Medicare and nursing home residents. I know for a fact that most people I talk to are astounded to find out that Medicare pays for a very small portion of a person's stay in a nursing home - if anything at all. I learned so much from this book and so will you.

Buy one for yourself, and one for your attorney. The information in this book is correct and easy to understand. It's the most cost efficient way to plan for the future and inevitable surprises that are the result of expensive health care costs as we age.

I needed information on Long Term Care, not only from a prospective of Insurance Options but on other options and programmes out there. Well, this is the one book which provides a really good overall view into this interesting topic.

I would advise not only consumers but financial professionals to read this book, and use it as a gift to clients!

5.0 out of 5 stars What a relief!, September 23, 2003

Without this book I wouldn't have had the courage to face long-term care planning. I perceived the topic as impossibly complex, and frankly, terrifying. The book is amazingly readable for such a dry topic, and it clarified and simplified the issues for me. When I met with my insurance agent, I had a long list of questions about the options in the application. He knew I wasn't a pushover, and actually, I don't think he ever had a client who asked so many solid and informed questions! Considering the devastating cost of nursing homes, this book has potentially saved me many (many!) thousands of dollars. I highly recommend the book to anyone "of a certain age" who knows (or suspects) that they should be worried about long-term care. If you don't know where to start, or you want to sanity check your existing plan, don't even think about it. Just purchase this book!

I can't believe how great this book is! I find the subject of long-term care planning confusing, but the author shines a bright light on it, revealing advice and practical suggestions that I never considered. This book gives you important details that other books don't - for example, there's a full chapter on Veteran's Benefits, when most long-term books either ignore the topic or write only one page. This is also the first book I've seen that covers the important new Federal Long Term Care Program (Ch. 15). By the way, the book is easy to read, and the author even makes this topic fun. At 360 pages, this is the only book you need.
