5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent and sensible, February 14, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Complete Idiot's Guide to Losing Weight (Paperback)
I like this book a lot. First of all, the authors have proper credentials (a lot of authors don't, even some celebrity diet gurus). One author is an M.S./R.D. who works as a nutritionist; the other is an M.D. who works with weight loss/obesity. For those of you looking for a quick fix, I'm sorry, you won't find it here! This is an informative, sensible guide to eating healthfully and losing weight gradually (c'mon, we all know that diets don't work). This book explains why you want to eat healthfully -- which nutrients your body needs, and how you can get them. In addition, it stresses the importance of exercise and makes you want to get moving. The authors don't expect you to never again eat junk food, but call for including it occasionally in a balanced, planned way of eating. Another thing I liked was the fact that this book addresses psychological issues as well -- it makes you examine why you eat, and includes a lot of motivational help. Note to vegetarians: Your needs are addressed throughout.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, Sensible Plan to Lose Pounds - and Well-Written, April 4, 1999

This review is from: Complete Idiot's Guide to Losing Weight (Paperback)
This is the best weight-loss book I've ever encountered: it's sensible, step-by-step, and thorough. I like that it gets beyond just giving you a food plan - it deals with designing an exercise plan, dealing with emotional issues, and more. Plus, the sample menus helped me get started. I didn't just lose ten pounds, I learned a lot of priceless information about health, nutrition and fitness. It's not gimmicky or based on pseudo-science, and it's very well-written and well-designed. The best!

This book has been a life saver! I had been toying with the idea for years about losing some weight, but got tired of all the diet bars, powders, etc.. I got this book on a whim and I have been very pleased with it. It shows you how to change your life so you can be healthy not just thin. I have recommended this book to about 10 friends I know who just don't know the right way to take off and keep off the weight. Thank you Susan!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Information, March 27, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Complete Idiot's Guide to Losing Weight (Paperback)
This book gave so much information, from eating right, exercise plans, recipes, to menus. Even if you aren't trying to lose weight you'll learn how to have a healthier lifestyle. This book repeatedly states what everyone should realize. That there are no quick fixes to losing weight. So, if you're ready to make the committment this is the book for you. Good Luck!
