I am an idiot no longer!,

This book was fantastic! It was simple reading on a very confusing subject. This book combined very informative straight talk with just the right amount of humor. It held my attention. I can now watch financial review shows on TV and know what they are talking about.

This is a good book for beginners. If you have no clue about what goes on in wall street, or with investing in general, this is a great place to start. The author covers the basics about different kinds of investment instruments. I read through the entire book and decided which ones I liked and am currently investing in them. This is a book on basics so don't expect to join an indepth conversation with executives at brokerage firms after reading it. It's just enough for you to start investing...

"The Complete Idiot's Guide to Making Money on Wall Street" by Christy Heady is a superb introduction to the principles of investing. I was so impressed with the book that I bought it for my girlfriend to get her started investing in mutual funds. Each chapter is extremely well written. The point Ms. Heady makes repeatedly is that you don't have to be wealthy to start investing. She cites a number of ways you can get started with as little as $50 a month (such as a no-load mutual fund or a DRIP plan). As a matter of fact, Ms. Heady got me so interested in investing that I got started with $50 dollars. I now follow the market everyday online.

First of all i recomend that you read the Complete idiot's guide to investing like a pro before progessing to this book. You could get by without it since some material is very similar. The only part of this book that is diffucult to understand is the section on options and futures, but this is the best attempt to explain that very difficult investment play. I am writing this on 7/23/2002 when the market is doing horrible, but since reading the book, even though like most investors i am losing some money i am beating the market averages.

This was my first book, and I highly recommend it , if you are too shy to ask the (what I believe now) hard questions, or dumb sounding ones. This book answered it.

An utterly condescending piece of garbage,

I read through this book hoping to learn the ins and outs of investing. Instead, all I got was an assortment of trite sayings and poorly organized - almost to the point of being random - definitions. The few - and I say few - helpful pieces of information in this book come with the air of condescension; the writer spends most of her time pampering the reader with her own suggestions for a successful investing career, instead of providing adequate information for the reader to make an informed decision. In short, the title of the book isn't just for laughs - the writer does assume that you are a COMPLETE IDIOT. Anyone with an ounce of intellectual self-respect and a desire to LEARN about Wall Street can find better literature elsewhere.

This is not just a how-to book. Or strategy book. But a complete description of what you are dealing with book. This has all the technical descriptions and examples. This book also has, "Did you know this", gray boxes. For example:" Bet you didn't know. More certificates of deposit mature in April and October any other time of year."

Skip this book and read Eric Tyson,

This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Making Money on Wall Street (Paperback)
Chrisy Headys book is a very lame book used as an intro to finance. I read about half the book and threw it away. I'm not kidding. I had previously read Eric Tyson's Investing For Dummies and decided to read Headys book just to make sure I had a solid foundation of knowledge before going on to more advanced financial books. It is my humble opinion that this book is completely worthless. Her sense of humor is downright pathetically lame and she writes down to the reader more then necassary. Unless you really are an IDIOT in which case I don't think you'd even have picked up a book in the first place, skip this one. Tysons book was MUCH more informative and his writing style was also MUCH better and he's even funnier (not saying a whole lot). I usually wouldn't take the time to write a review but in this case I felt it was worthwhile. She wasted some of my precious time with this lame book so I feel maybe I could save you some of yours. Simply put Tyson is a much better Teacher, and a much more enjoyable read. Heady really talks down to the reader and it takes her a whole entire book to say what she could of said in a hundred pages or so. There is a lot of wasted material, bad jokes and just plain garbage. Tyson has interesting first hand stories and goes into better depth and makes things easier to comprehend while doing so. I think I've said all there is to say about this one. Peace--
