this guide does not assume as so many others do,that you have some understanding of computers. Paul McFedries knows computers inside out,but his greatest achievement is that he knows you do not,so he starts right at the very beginning, he knows you are going to make mistakes and,he leads you through these, explaining in a very amusing style the confusing language of computers, allowing you all the time in the world to practise. If you cannot make your computer do what you want it to then this book really is for you. You don,t understand now but you will

Great for computer illiterate grannys,
This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Microsoft Windows XP, 2nd Edition (Paperback)
Hi,
This is a very handy book to have for those of us who are older and haven't learned a lot about how the computer operates, This information doesn't come with the computer or at least not with mine. Sometimes the grankids are not around to help and this book just about covers it all. A really great buy.

This book was an excellent value. It was listed as used but appears brand new. It was all the seller said it would be and more.

This book is easy to read and use for those who are new to the computer and are not familiar with all the technical terms that go along with it. It is not exhaustive but will get you through the basics and help you with simple problems that will come up. I have referred to it often, and I really enjoy his humor. He makes figuring out the computer fun!

Okay, so I'm the guy who wrote the foreword - that doesn't mean I'm totally biased, does it? Paul McFedries put together a thoughtful, easy-to-read, helpful tome on everything WinXP. If you're a newbie to the OS or a grizzled veteran just looking for a few pointers, this book will more than do the job.

This book is too general. Maybe for people who never have seen windows is useful. I was looking for technical information but it is not there.
