5.0 out of 5 stars Great book!
This book was packed full of very useful information, and was a joy to read. I normally can't just sit down and read a book like this, I've got a very short attention span. The Complete Idiot's Guide to Motorcycles, 4th Edition (Complete Idiot's Guide to) had just enough humor packed in with all the information to keep me from being overloaded, and kept me looking forward...

1.0 out of 5 stars Pass on the Kindle version!
This was the first book I downloaded for my Kindle, and boy what a disappointment! The formating of the book is terrible. On every page there are at least two or three words which are run together. In other words, there is no space between the words. I was usually able to figure out what was being said, but I don't understand how such an error was able to get by quality...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book!, February 17, 2008
This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Motorcycles, 4th Edition (Mass Market Paperback)
This book was packed full of very useful information, and was a joy to read. I normally can't just sit down and read a book like this, I've got a very short attention span. The Complete Idiot's Guide to Motorcycles, 4th Edition (Complete Idiot's Guide to) had just enough humor packed in with all the information to keep me from being overloaded, and kept me looking forward to the next page. It took me less than a week of evenings to finish reading this, and I find myself re-reading sections every now and then.

Definitely a great book for the first-time rider. I own my own motorcycle now, and had a much better idea of what to expect thanks to this book.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I have!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good book, but don't let it scare you., October 3, 2009

I found this book to be enjoyable and packed full with great information for the beginner but with a few more warnings than I think is necessary. It might be enough to frighten an already nervous beginner. The warnings about beginners needing to start with smaller bikes, progressing over time to an intermediate bike and then to a larger one, had me, as a beginner, a bit worried. I went straight to the big heavy weight Harley anyway, and the other information in this book helped prepare me to have many fun and safe rides.

This book is as useful as entertaining, and a must for the not-so-experienced motorcyclist. From models over safety to maintenance, it is all in there.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good intro, needs a little editing, November 26, 2008
This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Motorcycles, 4th Edition (Mass Market Paperback)
Fun book that covers a huge amount of motorcycling info, without diving very deep into any particular area.

There's very little here that you won't find on a variety of internet sites that cater to new riders, but at least it's well packaged.

One thing I found disappointing was the description of how to actually start and ride a bike. The description on page 147 mixes up the left and right controls and would have you pressing up on the rear brake (right side) while operating the clutch and trying to put the bike into gear. Whoops -- clutch levers AND pedals are on the left.

Still, it's worth $15.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice easy read, May 18, 2011

This book is just what newbie needs to get into biking. It gives basic knowledge, a history of bikes, and how they work. I read it just so I would be able to understand a little more about bikes and be able to talk to people who are into bikes. If you have been riding for awhile this is not for you, but if you are new this would be a good place to start.

I have been riding motorcycles for 60 years. This easy to read book taught me many new skills and reinforced many that had, over the years, become rusty.

5.0 out of 5 stars Informative and Entertaining., November 30, 2009
This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Motorcycles, 4th Edition (Mass Market Paperback)
I could gush about how much fun it was to read this book for ages, but I'd like to keep it short and to the point.

Reading this book as someone just getting interested in motorcycles, I was able to learn the basics in a lot of areas of the subject. Types of engines, the history of motorcycles, even safe riding techniques and gear.

This book is well written and engaging. You can learn a lot and won't get bored.

I would definately reccomend this book, and can easily and confidently rate it five stars. :)

In other words, there is no space between the words. I was usually able to figure out what was being said, but I don't understand how such an error was able to get by quality control. Doesn't anyone look at these books before they are offered for download? Also, later in the book, there are text descriptions which accompany photographs of various bikes. In every case, the text is on a separate page from the photo making it difficult to read and understand. The whole attempt at an ebook is a failure and it's clear that whoever converted this books could care less about the quality.
