5.0 out of 5 stars Natural Remedies Shows How Foods and Herbs Help Your Body to Fix the Cause rather than Place bandages on Symptoms, February 15, 2009
This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Natural Remedies (Paperback)
I've just finished reading The Complete Idiot's Guide to Natural Remedies and I highly recommend it above most other similar books because it specifically refers the reader to validated research-based remedies for more than 50 medical conditions. When you read a book on natural remedies, look for research-based remedies that have been scientifically proven to work.

This book has excellent quotes from experts, a glossary, resources, practitioners, and contributing experts with medical degrees. It references various journals where research can be fact-checked. This book is thorough and can help you manage your health and also seek preventive and personalized medical advice from experts, resources, integrative medicine specialists, and naturopaths.

It's about bringing your body back into balance and also preventing problems by reading research-based information written so that anyone can easily understand the information. Educate yourself in natural remedies by reading this book.

When you decide on what you want to try, make sure that the herb or other natural ingredient you select won't raise your pressure, overstimulate your thyroid, or encourage your live to produce too much bile or any other effect based on your own body's response. Everyone is different, yet, why put a bandage on a symptom if you can prevent the cause in the first place with foods or supplements. Check it out. I highly recommend this book. I've been using natural remedies for myself since 1959 and have written numerous books on nutrition. For those of you with pets, if you research natural remedies for yourself, when you finished reading this book, the next project you'd enjoy is researching natural remedies for your pet.

The big picture is that research shows that for many people alternative therapies work very well at prevention, integration, and bringing your body into balance before your system goes on to deep decline. My best advice is to research natural remedies to see which remedies work best. Thanks to this book, you have the actual names of medical physicians and naturopaths with their statements so you can see who is prescribing what natural remedies for what situations. I enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it to anyone.

2.0 out of 5 stars Why Were Science-Based Natural Remedies Ignored In This Book?, March 23, 2009
This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Natural Remedies (Paperback)
Reading through this book, I couldn't help but compare it to Dr. Jonny Bowden's The Most Effective Natural Cures On Earth--and there's no comparison! This one is woefully inadequate and missing some key "natural remedies" that include low-carb diets for blood sugar control, weight loss, and other key aspects of health mentioned in the book. Were these scientifically-based all-natural remedies simply overlooked or ignored?
