I've just finished reading The Complete Idiot's Guide to Natural Remedies and I highly recommend it above most other similar books because it specifically refers the reader to validated research-based remedies for more than 50 medical conditions. When you read a book on natural remedies, look for research-based remedies that have been scientifically proven to work.

This book has excellent quotes from experts, a glossary, resources, practitioners, and contributing experts with medical degrees. It references various journals where research can be fact-checked. This book is thorough and can help you manage your health and also seek preventive and personalized medical advice from experts, resources, integrative medicine specialists, and naturopaths.

It's about bringing your body back into balance and also preventing problems by reading research-based information written so that anyone can easily understand the information. Educate yourself in natural remedies by reading this book.

When you decide on what you want to try, make sure that the herb or other natural ingredient you select won't raise your pressure, overstimulate your thyroid, or encourage your live to produce too much bile or any other effect based on your own body's response. Everyone is different, yet, why put a bandage on a symptom if you can prevent the cause in the first place with foods or supplements. Check it out. I highly recommend this book. I've been using natural remedies for myself since 1959 and have written numerous books on nutrition. For those of you with pets, if you research natural remedies for yourself, when you finished reading this book, the next project you'd enjoy is researching natural remedies for your pet.

Reading through this book, I couldn't help but compare it to Dr. Jonny Bowden's The Most Effective Natural Cures On Earth--and there's no comparison! This one is woefully inadequate and missing some key "natural remedies" that include low-carb diets for blood sugar control, weight loss, and other key aspects of health mentioned in the book. Were these scientifically-based all-natural remedies simply overlooked or ignored?

More About the Author

I love natural remedies and I've been using them for as long as I can remember. When I was growing up, my mother practiced natural cures such as tea bag baths for sunburn, homeopathic remedies for colds and allergies, arnica oil for sprains and bruises and, of course, chicken soup with garlic was always a staple.

My interest in natural remedies continued as I graduated from Boston University with a degree in communications and subsequently dabbled in various vocations including advertising and television production in Hollywood. In 1998 I moved back to my hometown, Greenport, NY and set up my own writing business. I'd always wanted to be my own boss and write full-time.

My focus was, and is, health, and in particular alternative medicine which includes natural remedies. As a freelance journalist, I've written about natural cures for Natural Health, Better Homes & Gardens, Prevention, Vegetarian Times, and Sprituality & Health. You can see my work here: https://chrystlefiedler.contently.com.

In 2009 I began writing non-fiction books that feature natural remedies. My latest book
The Home Reference to Holistic Health and Healing: Easy-to-Use Natural Remedies, Herbs, Flower Essences, Essential Oils, Supplements, and Therapeutic Practices for Health, Happiness, and Well-Being (Fairwinds Press) with herbalist Brigitte Mars will be published on December 1st.

Other books include: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Natural Remedies (Alpha, 2009), Beat Sugar Addiction Now! (Fairwinds Press, 2010 4th printing), and the Beat Sugar Addiction Now! Cookbook (Fairwinds Press, 2012) both with noted holistic physician Jacob Teitelbaum, M.D. and The Country Almanac of Home Remedies (Fairwinds Press, 2011) with herbalist Brigitte Mars.

So it was only "natural" that when it came to fiction, I'd focus on natural remedies too. In 2011, my life-long dream to write cozy mysteries came true when Gallery Books/Simon & Schuster bought my natural remedies series. The first book in the series, DEATH DROPS: A Natural Remedies Mystery was released in 2012 and SCENT to KILL was released in 2013. Now, I'm happy to announce that the third book in the series GARDEN of DEATH will be out March 31!

My natural remedies series features holistic doctor, Willow McQuade, ND, who runs Nature's Way Market & Cafe located on the East End of Long Island, NY. GARDEN of DEATH takes place during our annual Maritime Festival, when Willow opens a new medicinal plant garden in memory of her beloved Aunt Claire which leads to murder, buried treasure and even, Captain Kidd! You'll also find tips about medicinal plants at the beginning of each chapter as a bonus! Find out more about the series by visiting www.chrystlefiedler.com.

When I'm not writing, I'm spending time with family and friends, playing with my two dachshunds Holmes and Wallander, and my two cats, Tinker and Tuppence, (all named after famous detectives!) taking a walk on the beach, gardening, enjoying Elementary, Murder, She Wrote and The Mentalist on TV or reading a cozy mystery in my cozy cottage by the sea.

Feel free to drop me a note, Like me on Facebook and follow me on Twitter! I'll see you there!
