5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!!
I want to thank Mr. Snaith for writing the best book for a beginner that I have ever used! The chapters are all well explained, and you actually feel like you know the stuff when you have finished!

Back in college (10 years ago), the only D I ever got was in Pascal programming, and that was because the teacher went out of their way to be obscure and confusing. Using...

Using lessons learned from Mr. Snaiths book, I was able to write a program that succesfully approximates a normal distribution (calculus/statistics) in about 20 lines!

If you are looking for a great place to get started with general programming, and a great confidence booster for a beginner, then this book is for you.

This review is from: Complete Idiot's Guide to C++ (Paperback)
This book is good if you know little or no C++ at all, it was well written, and had lots, of humer, not to many screenshots, but this book was so well written that you can picture it in your head. I gave is 5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE BEST BOOK TO LEARN C++ WITH - EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT!, March 3, 2001
By
This review is from: Complete Idiot's Guide to C++ (Paperback)
I am on a nightcourse, learning C++, taught by Paul Snaith's son, Stuart; although, I did not realise this at the time, I might add. Stu' is an excellent teacher and based the course on the book. Naturally, I bought the book. I started reading. Then I cought up with the course. Then I read ahead a bit, then a bit more. I stormed through this book. It is, quite simply, a 'brilliantly written book'. I am two chapters away from the end now and have just bought a book to take me to the next stage. I could not have done it without this book. Everyone should buy and read it - compulsive reading. In simple language, repeating things in boxes around the page, never presumptious and in a light hearted style, I cannot praise this book enough. If this was not enough, the enclosed CD contains all the course code and more. Ignore this review and waste your time looking elsewhere. This is the best.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, February 8, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Complete Idiot's Guide to C++ (Paperback)
I'm only 12 years old, and now I know C++. This book taught me. Paul uses just enough humor to keep the book going, and his writing style is excellent! If the other books won't work, THIS WILL!

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally A Book That Helps With C++, March 17, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Complete Idiot's Guide to C++ (Paperback)
I purchased this book two day's ago and I give it 10+++. The author does a great job in presenting basic C++ concepts. He uses real world examples and drawings that get to the point. I own many C++ books; This one really shines because the examples are good and the book is written at a level that those of us just starting C++ will not get lost. I am currently enrolled in a C++ class at my local JC and the text we use is an absolute piece of [junk]. Do yourself a favor buy this book now and help remedy the frustration of learning C++.

Yet, I have about 5 c++ beginners type books ,the only one that really helped me a lot is this one ,the author have a straight to the point approach..very practical, giving you just the right amount of info on each topic ,making it easy to remember without messing you up with tons of options and sub topics... I recommend it for anybody new to c++ as the first thing to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clear, Concise, and Organized, August 5, 2001
This review is from: Complete Idiot's Guide to C++ (Paperback)
Great introduction to the C++ language! The author has a way of presenting the material so it is easy to grasp. It's nice to finally read a book that doesn't take off on a tangent, but builds upon previously presented concepts. I have many books on VB and a few on C++, and they always seem to lose you about 4, 5, or 6 chapters into them. This book doesn't do that. I can't say enough good things about the author or the material. If you are new to the language, this book is a great place to start!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for helping to gain core programming knowledge., August 18, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Complete Idiot's Guide to C++ (Paperback)
I have to admit that I'm not done with the book yet because I keep getting stuck at a few points in the book. I don't think the book does a very good job of explaining why things like loops do what they do. There are a few things that the author overlooked as far as making it easy to understand but the more I concentrate on understanding the syntax, the more I understand. This book has actually helped me better understand JavaScript which I use almost any day. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to get some core programming knowledge but not somebody who wants to quickly be able to program C++.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply superb, July 15, 2002
This review is from: Complete Idiot's Guide to C++ (Paperback)
This book is marvelous! I bought this book thinking it would be exactly what it was: for idiots. However, after I purchased it, I found that it was an excellent resource to assist in learning C++. Not only does Snaith explain how the code works, he explains what it is used for, and tells you what not to do, not just what to do. I recommend that you read the online portion of the book, and you'll see that the book is quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for beginners, December 14, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Complete Idiot's Guide to C++ (Paperback)
This is a great book for beginners. It covers most of the
subjects in C++ in a simple manner and plain English. It
gives an idea and useful overview about C++ programming
concept. This book covers inheritence, multiple inheritence,
polymorphism and object oriented programming chapters aslo.
However it doesn't cover templates,exceptions,STL,debugging,
etc. even as an overview. There are four additional bonus
chapters in CDROM like advanced file handling and reusable
code. I warmly recommend this book for beginners but they
will need a second book also for further study.
