I love this book! I love the recipes! I like how it is different from all the other "vegan" books out there; it is a step up. Instead of being called a vegan book it is a "whole-food plant-based" how to book. Vegan books usually contain lots of oil, sugar, salt and mock meats...Julieanna explains why all of these "anti-nutrients" are not good for you and how to get around using them in fun and delicious ways. I love the whole concept of the book. Great job Julieanna! She is an inspiration to me because I was a vegan for five years and fell off the wagon for cheese and now I am back on, thanks to her passion. This book reminded me all of the reasons I went plant-based five years ago and I will be giving this book to loved-ones as a reference because it explains everything you will ever need to know about being an herbivore!

The Complete Idiot's Guide to Plant Based Nutrition, by Julieanna Hever is a beautifully written work which explains the importance of healthy eating. The book is designed for people who know little about plant based nutrition, and for those who are fully knowledgeable. The book may be read cover to cover or the reader can pick out items from the Table of Contents which may be of particular interest to them. I went directly to the Super Snacks (wouldn't you just know it?) chapter and really look forward to trying some of those treats. I then turned to the Super Seniors chapter because living a long and healthy life is right about where I am. Every reader will find much of interest in terms what makes us healthy and what drags us down.
Even though the title of this series of books (Idiot's Guide) would lead one to think this book is for the un or undereducated person, it is not. Mrs. Hever has done a wonderful job of presenting evidence to back up all of her positions on diet and health. In Appendix C, she provides nutrition charts which are a scholarly look at the facts regarding plant based nutrition. Anyone who has ever wondered how we really get our protein, or how many vitamins we really need, or what happens to us as we get older will find the answers clearly explained in this book. When you finish reading it you will be very well informed indeed on how to improve your total life style, and just feel better about yourself and how you provide for your family nutritionally speaking. Buy it today!

I bought this book for my wife who is a vegetarian but I felt was not getting a good, broadbased diet with all the nutrients that she needed. This book will teach vegetarians how to eat a healthy diet which is not lacking in required nutrients. I am cutting back on animal products too and this book is so helpful. A must read for any new or existing vegetarians or vegans, or anyone else who would like to explore a plant based diet. Wonderfully written and easy to follow.

I bought this book for my 80 year old mother, she is wanting to learn to go vegan in order to keep from having to take drugs for her Rheumatoid Arthritis. In just one month of trying to do it herself without guidance she is practically pain free, but she became worried that she may not be doing the right things, so I bought her this book. I read it first to make sure it would be helpful to her. It was so good I couldn't put it down, I ended up staying up all night to finish it. This book is just what she needed to answer any questions she had and alleviate any fears as to whether she was getting the proper nutrition. Plus, she found out she doesn't have to get fancy or start eating a lot of foreign foods that she can't find in her rural area and can't afford on a budget. She is thrilled with the book.

At the time of this writing, I'm down 16.5 pounds of pure fat, which has melted away thanks to a mostly plant-based diet of high nutrient-dense foods, and moderate exercise (30 minutes of elliptical machine 3-4 times per week). I've never felt healthier--both physically mentally. Julieanna is one of the smartest and sweetest women on the planet. I've hired her as a nutrition coach, I've watched her documentary, I've read her blog and made her recipes. THIS IS THE REAL DEAL folks. Even if you are coming from a meat-based diet (like me), you'll find it's not really a compromise to reduce the intake. Especially when you start to see that thinner, younger body you once knew. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book and everything else Julieanna puts her stamp of approval on.

I have been reading a lot about plant based foods and diet. This is I thing my 8th book in a month. I have read The China Study, The enzyme study, Eat to Live among others. Julianna is friends with some of these other authors and doctors. She has a passion for plant based foods and literally making changes to the world one plate at a time. After reading the book, she makes you feel like it is so easy, it's just plain common sense. I enjoy her enthusiasm and passion. There are some great recipes from simple ingredients. There are tips for restaurants, holidays, dinner parties. It addresses pregnancy, raising kids, school lunches. She really touches on it all. There also is a great chapter on the important of fitness, I went to the gym for 2 hours after reading it. She is a kind lady with spirit who us very active in social networking, thanks for the great read Julianna!
