Best Book on Pool available,
By FOX (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Pool and Billiards, 2nd Edition (Paperback)
Don't let this series of "Idiot Guides" turn you off to this great book. They are all written by different authors, and this author wrote a really good book, unlike some of the other idiot guides.
I have just about every book on Pool and Billiards there is, and this by far is the best. For beginners, and people just getting into Pool that want a book, THIS is the one to get. It has information on EVERYTHING from what type of pool cue to get, to trick shots, and some real good advice. The ONLY thing I found odd, is when the author tells you to always put the chalk back on the table sideways instead of straight up. Just cross out that part, and the rest of the book is great.

Readable, Informative, A Great Start,

This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Pool and Billiards, 2nd Edition (Paperback)
I'm new to the game so I can't critically review every bit of advice in this boook. However, I have a STACK of new books on pool and this is the only one that one can actually read from cover to cover. All of Ms. Laurence's advice has been sound so far, and my game is moving along. Moving along very nicely, in fact, after some fumbling before I got this book. Perfect for beginners. She gets into some pretty advanced theory and practice, not just newbiw stuff -- but if she ever writes a book with "Advanced" in the title, I fully intend to buy it ASAP. I do wish there was a way to take a book to the pool hall without looking like a fool: this would be the one.

I am just learning about pool, and I found this book to be just what I needed. She clearly exlains each issue, mostly in a very good order for learning them. My friends can't believe how quickly I have improved. Now I have to decide if I want to share the book with them or just start beating them.

great addition to any library of a pool player,

This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Pool and Billiards, 2nd Edition (Paperback)
I found this book very well written with good detail and explainations. When words were difficult, excellent pictures helped make things clear. I played pool for years but was unable to play for a long time. I bought the book as a refresher and was very impressed. It has helped me a lot to get back on track with my game. Any serious pool player who wants help with their game can benefit from this book. New players as well as old.

This is a good reference manual on pool/billiards. It includes data on selecting equipment and accessories. The chapters of tips on how to shoot are well written and clear, easy to understand. A good addition to the library of any pool player.

Side Talks,

This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Pool and Billiards, 2nd Edition (Paperback)
Good book, but it comes with a lot of side talks, more than the real information that you will learn. Some my prefer this way, but not me. I always prefer to get direct info.

GREAT BILLIARD BOOK FOR EVEN SMART PEOPLE,
By
This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Pool and Billiards, 2nd Edition (Paperback)
The book is great as written by a great billiard player, star personality, talented announcer, trick shot expert, and overall billiard guru. I learned many things from the encyclopedia of billiard expertise. FOLKS, THIS IS A GREAT BOOK FOR ANY LEVEL POOL PLAYER; DUMMIE OR NOT.
During a recent WPBA tournament in Oklahoma City, this reviewer was promised by the book's author to autograph the 2 new copies I had just purchased. One of these books was for a sick child in the hospital as Ewa is his favorite player but we were unable to connect. I will try again in Oregon in 2 weeks as this Dummie wants an autograph!!!!

wordy book on billiards,

I just wanted a basic book on billiards and billard etiquette. This book is too big and wordy. I guess it is a good book if you are considering purchasing a billiard table, as it goes into great detail about what to look for, etc. I wanted just a basic book.
