The book has sheet music for about 25 songs, with tabs for solo parts and then chords and non-tabbed melody notes for the rest of songs. The tabs are generally relatively difficult, and quite a stretch for beginners. But I find when I stretch myself musically, I go back to easier songs as a better musician. If you want songs that allow you to hit the ground running, some of the fake books, such as The Daily Ukulele: 365 Songs for Better Living [DAILY UKULELE] [Paperback] are better choices. But if you want a challenging book in your library, then this is an excellent choice.
The authors have also included a small chord theory section that they call a "refresher". Thus, the audience is NOT beginners (or Idiots), but some of it might be helpful.
Regarding the 2 CDs, it appears that they have identical content. I guess this means that you can use the CD on two computers at the same time, which I suppose is nice, but is limited help with only one book! The software allows you to change pitch, tempo, and lets you remove vocals or ukulele parts. Many of the songs have drum, guitar and base accompaniment which suggests that they really aren't appropriate ukulele songs without "help". But the nice thing is when you remove the ukulele parts, the rest of the music accompanys your uke. However, the down side is that if you want to perform these songs in public, you should probably have a backup band.Read more ›
I play some guitar, so it was easy for me to pick up the concepts of this music. As with any instrument the key is practice. If you don't get it, you have to be persistent and keep on trying. Eventually you will get it right. This book does not take the place of regular practice. Nothing does... but it does make the practice easier, which is the point. If you use this book every day for an hour, at the end of a week, every person should be able to play at least 2-3 songs in this book. Once you get the easy chords, and get your strumming going, you'll be able to learn at a faster rate. Gotta get those fingers limbered up, strengthened and the chords will come with practice...
