As a marketing consultant, I'm pretty up on social media and how to utilize the common platforms. I was looking for a book, though, that I could recommend to clients and others looking for a good overview on the common social media platforms I was recommending and how to use them. When I discovered Jennifer Abernethy's book, after hearing her speak, I took a chance that this book could be the one. It was, but what I didn't expect was that the book would not only be informative but motivational as well. I've devoured each chapter one at a time and then ran to the laptop to try out her suggestions. I was very pleased to learn new things and grow my social media usage. It's also prompted me to dig deeper and find more and more ways to grow my business via social media. I raise my glass to Jennifer and the latest version of The Complete Idiots Guide to Social Media.

Some people are marketing gurus; others are social media experts. Very few have mastered the marriage of both.

Jennifer Abernethy's book will get you up to speed on each. In her breezy, informative, step-by-step style she arms you with the tools, the know-how and the shortcuts that will slice through the clutter and complications of social media.

She advises you on what to do and warns you about what not to do. Her book is a virtual bible to keep handy when you run into a roadblock or need a new strategy.

One of the most valuable pieces of information is her diary-style approach to managing your time on platforms that can easily eat it up. She tells you how many minutes you should spend each day on YouTube, FaceBook, Twitter, Linked-In, and the rest so that your day still belongs to you.

If you have a product or service to market to a wide audience, this is the book that will guide you to success.

Highly recommended without reservation.

I found this book to be the key to getting me up to speed in the Social Media world. Jennifer Abernethy covers everything from Facebook, to MySpace, Streaming Social Media, Internet radio, and even explains writing your own articles and e-zines. She not only reviews these platforms in an easy-to-read manner, but also gives you strategies to best approach them for your particular needs. This second edition builds on the first by adding updated statistics, new social media sites and explains the new Facebook Timeline and how to use it. I've also found it to be very beneficial to refer to book's web page that covers even more information than is in the book. Overall, this book has allowed me to bring my business to the next level!

"This is an excelent book for people that are new to social media marketing. The book is a very complete guide in order to do first steps, but it doesn't go much deep about Marketing Strategy.

This book is PERFECT for people who know nothing about social media. It is very well written and easy to read without feeling overwhelming. Additionally, it's also great for those of you who may already be using social media as Jennifer gives a lot of suggestions for additional apps and things to try on each platform to engage yourself or your business even more.

She uses screen grabs throughout the book from each of the social media platforms which is super helpful and nice to have if you're totally unfamiliar with how to start up and navigate certain platforms.

I also loved how every so often (usually when I would start to feel a little overwhelmed with how much is out there that I had never even heard of before!) she reminded you to not feel overwhelmed and to just take things day by day and to not rush into trying to do everything at once and feel the pressure to do it perfectly.
