Feel-Good Book, Little Application, February 13, 2006
This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide(R) to Spirituality in the Workplace (Paperback)
Ealy gives some basic tips about how to keep a spiritual attitude at work. I especially liked the sections dealing with how to maintain a spiritual attitude during disciplinary issues, and how to deal with non-spiritual co-workers and supervisors. Ealy also reviews how to stay spiritual in job interviews and the job search process.
This book appears to be marketed toward women, as evidenced by the fact that all the drawings show women being spiritual in the workplace. Where are the men? The book does not favor any one religion over another. Rather, Ealy tries to focus on the reader's personal spiritual values which transcend religious dogma. Ealy's attempt to avoid religious preference tends to give the book a new age flavor. The only axiom with which the reader must agree is that love-based attitudes are better than fear-based attitudes.
As for application, Ealy focuses largely on inner spiritual changes rather than outward practical application. Her suggestions involve lots of journaling and rallying other spiritual co-workers into something like a spiritual support group. I would like to have seen more in the area of application: dealing with various faiths, legal issues, and employee rights and protections. If those are the issues you are researching, then this isn't the book for you.
