First book on sport pilot certificate!,
By
This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Sport Flying (Paperback)
I'm the primary author of THE COMPLETE IDIOT'S GUIDE TO SPORT FLYING. Anticipating the dramatic changes to general aviation coming from the new FAA sport pilot and light-sport aircraft rules, I teamed up with one of the best flight instructors available to thoroughly research and present what the novice needs to know about getting into the new field of sport flying. It will get you off the ground and into the friendly skies in less time and for less money. The new rules took effect Sept. 1, 2004 and you can take advantage of them now! Additional information is available at SportFlyingGuide.com.

This is a really good basic overview of the new Light Sport category of airplanes. The book covered most aspects of how to become a proficient pilot with additional references. It was worth the price and time time spent reading.

A good primer on how the FAA's new sport pilot rule/light sport aircraft makes learning to fly easier and more affordable than ever before.

Speaking as someone who started taking private pilot lessons 25 years ago but never completed them, I am very pleased with this book. I am considering getting my sport pilot license now as I've always wanted to fly and can finally afford to with the creating of the Sport pilot certificate. This book covers all the basics needed to enter into this endeavor with my eyes wide open. I would recommend it to anyone that is thinking about flying, but is not quite ready to commit to the ground school course or the actual lessons yet. This book will teach you the basic fundamentals of why a plane flies and what it will take to get you into the air.
This is not an instruction manual, but it will skim over much of the material covered in the FAA ground school course as well as information on actually taking your flight test and everything in between. It is well written without getting to technical for the beginning enthusiast, yet if you have some experience with aircraft it will not bore you either. The book is full of many tips and tidbits that you might otherwise never come across during your actual training. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and am now sure that the sport pilot certificate is right for me and plan to jump headlong into it. Once reading this book you will have a pretty good idea whether flying is for you or not. Of course the only way to know for sure is to find a reputable flight school and take one of their introductory flights. Anyway, if you are thinking that you might be interested in flying for a fraction of the cost and half the instruction time of the private pilot certificate, then pick up a copy of this book and check out the wonderful world of sport flying. and above all, have fun with it.

If you have any interest in learning how to fly with the new sport pilot regs, this is your book. It tells you what you can fly, where you can fly and how to fly. I would suggest that you get a sectional chart (your local airport with a place to buy gas or hanger airplanes or the FAA), get the book and dream.

One of the things on my personal bucket list was learning how to fly a plane. Not knowing very much about the subject I orginally ordered a complete Private Pilot Course which cost me over 200.00. Even though the DVDs were very good, I did not find it very helpful and it did not cover Sport Flying. After researching the subject on line I discovered this manual and now wish I never spent the $235.00 on that other course. This is an excellent basic guide for anyone interested in flying as a recreational activity. Do not be misled by the title. This manual goes into great detail on Sport Flying. The nineteen chapters (and 316 pages)cover the following: Explaining the new sport flying activity, How planes fly, rules of the air, ground school, flying at home, into the wild blue yonder, preflight operations, pattern flying, solo flying, cross-country flying, passing the test, expanding your horiizons, flying higher, choosing your sport plane, finding your sport plane, buying your sport plane, sharing your sports plane, building your sport plane and maintaining your sport plane. In conclusion, if you are thinking about taking flying lesons to become a sport pilot, you need this book. If you intend to take lessons from a flight school or instructor, this book will help you learn the material required to pass the written examination. Rating: 5 Stars. Joseph J. This book was exactly what I was expecting. It gives a good overview of what's involved in becoming a Sport Pilot. Its not a substitute for the actual pilot training materials, but is a good introductory first step. With this book and Micosoft Flight Simulator, you can make the decision about moving on to actual training with an instructor.

This is not a definitive book on flying but if you know anyone or you are a person who thinks they may want to take lessons it is a very easy to read overview of the sport/career. I think it would be a good reference for an advanced student too.
