From the Author

Welcome to the sensual, erotic world of the Kama Sutra. We're delighted that you've decided to explore this ancient lovers' wisdom with us. You'll learn, as we have, that these age-old sexual secrets still hold a wealth of knowledge for couples today. Empires rise and fall and cultures disappear, but the essence of superlative lovemaking remains unchanged.

All the amazing ways of love that we tell you about in this book are things we actually do. We give you the perceptions of a man and a woman who walk the talk. We speak to you as individuals of course, but more importantly, we speak to you as lovers, as a couple. For twenty years we've studied together the mysteries of sexual expression. It's a joy to share with you the happiness we've found by saying yes to supercharged sex, by taking the time and effort to learn the skills of master lovers, as the Kama Sutra suggested everyone should.

Whether you're a novice in the arts of love, or know your way around the bedroom quite well, you'll find ideas and practices that will add spice and satisfaction to your love life. If you're in a new relationship where the heat of passion is still scorching, there are suggestions that will keep your fires burning for longer than you could possibly imagine. If you've been together quite some time and are wondering where the magic went, with this Kama Sutra guide you'll conjure up sexual enchantments that will bewitch you both for years to come. For those of you between lovers, we can't think of a better handbook to help you learn the sensual arts. So when Ms. or Mr. Right comes along, they'll stay with you forever.

The Kama Sutra teaches that extraordinary sex is a worthy element of a full and rich life. Everyone deserves the satisfaction of sex that's truly supercharged. And everyone, including you, can learn to make that kind of love.

Of our four published books, this is the one we had the most fun writing. Of course we had to try all the techniques to be sure we were doing things correctly, and to find the best way to write the instructions for readers to easily understand them.

The Kama Sutra is all about sex technique, but we manage to slip in a bit of the spiritual with our chapter comparing Kama Sutra with Tantra. If you are looking for a resource to help you be the best lover you can be, this is a great book and not only to start with; actually you might discover this is the only sex instruction manual you will ever need. We suggest using it like the classic sex pillow books. Keep a copy handy on your bedside table. Open to almost any page and try doing what you find described there. Read the text, look closely at the illustrating photo(s), and then dive in, pun intended. Keep it light and be prepared to laugh at each other; but that is all part of the learning fun.

We have also released an electronic version, based upon our research of the Kama Sutra. That is named, Kama Sutra Super Sex, and it is also fully color illustrated, with a different couple as models. By the way, in both the published book and the electronic book, both couples were actually lovers, not just actors. We believe this does make a difference in how the visual image communicates the message, as there is emotional content, not just sexual technique information.

And, we have created a Kama Sutra Home Study Course on DVD. This DVD includes video instruction for all the sexual techniques, of course including the sexual intercourse positions. And the DVD includes a copy of the eBook Kama Sutra Super Sex. This DVD is a complete learning curriculum, including learning outcomes, as well as questions for review and reflection. You read the eBook on your computer and watch the DVD either on the computer or on any DVD player and TV. That DVD is available on Amazon, as is the eBook.

Thank you for allowing us to be your guides.

With love and lusty joy
Al Link and Pala Copeland

From the Inside Flap

The Kama Sutra has been inspiring lovers for more than sixteen hundred years. Although we've only been around for a minute fraction of that time, our readers, our clients, and the Discovery Channel all say we teach people how to have the best sex of their lives. Bring us together and you're bound to get some very powerful lessons in love.

The Kama Sutra taught that lovemaking is an art and a science--something that everyone should study in order to have a complete and rewarding life. You have the capacity to make its ideas and practices your own. We'll guide you through the nuances of these ancient sex techniques from joyful beginning to ecstatic end.

As you read, you'll find that this book isn't about good sex, it's about great sex, supercharged sex--the best of the best. With it you'll learn the finesse required to become a master lover, a superlative sexual partner. If that sounds a bit daunting, take a big breath and relax. All that's really required is an enthusiasm for adventure and a willingness to spend time exploring.

The satisfaction you'll create together in the bedroom will spill over into the rest of your lives. Couples who are very pleased with their sexual connection are much more likely to be very pleased with their entire relationship. Wonderful sex boosts your physical and emotional well-being. It puts a spring in your step, a song in your heart, and sets your spirit soaring. Dare to imagine how enriched you'll be when you learn to make your sex supercharged.

(c) How To Use This Book

There's more than one way to work with this guide. You can read it through, learn some of the techniques, and introduce them the next time you make love. You can go through it together, in a non-sexual setting and try out some of the poses--with your clothes on. It's a lot of fun, and can ease some of the awkwardness that might pop up when you're introducing something new. Or, you might imitate ancient Oriental lovers and use it as a pillow book, a guide that you refer to for inspiration during the course of your love play. The full color photos will give you a very clear picture of what to do.

However you decide to bring these techniques into your love life, remember that sex is playful as well as profound. An open mind, a willing heart, and a sense of humor will all help you transform ordinary sex into sizzling sex.

(c) How This Book Is Organized

This guide is presented in four parts, with a total of thirteen chapters. They lead you on a rousing exploration of erotic Kama Sutra techniques for supercharging your sex life.

Part 1, "Red Hot Sex - Yes!" introduces the ancient love text Kama Sutra and explores its relevance for modern lovers. Consider the Kama Sutra in its historical, cultural, and spiritual context. Learn about the author, Vatsyayana, as well as where, when, and why he wrote. Understand his views on the importance of harmony between lovers, in terms of genital size, emotional temperament, and sexual desire. There's a difference between supercharged sex and regular, friction sex, learn how you can make the leap from ordinary to extraordinary.

Part 2, "Come on Baby, Light my Fire" teases you through all the passionate play leading up to sexual intercourse. Consider Vatsyayana's advice about setting the scene for love, and creating a sacred space for your sexual encounter. Explore his artful approach to embraces, caresses, kisses, sighs, and moans. Understand the difference between violence and fierceness, and learn how to scratch, bite, and slap your way to red hot arousal. Open up to the ancient secrets of "going down", including fellatio (oral sex for men) and cunnilingus (oral sex for women).

Part 3, "In the Heart of the Fire" details the juicy intercourse positions described in the Kama Sutra, and illustrates them with color photographs. We point out which postures are advanced and which are easy. Discover the best positions for building intimacy and emotional heart connection, stimulating the clitoris and g-spot, getting and maintaining erections for as long as you both want, and fueling erotic excitement and deep penetration. Learn about going fast and staying still, and discover the peaks and valleys of orgasm. Understand that there's much more to thrusting than your basic in and out. Find ways to combine those masterful moves with skillful caresses for intercourse that's truly over the top.

Part 4, "In the Afterglow" helps you understand why it's so important to pay attention to what happens when intercourse is over. Learn about sensual nutrition, how to please, appreciate, and adore each other with your words, your eyes, and your bodies. Nourish your senses with sexy food and drink. Learn how to maintain, and re-excite, your physical and emotional connection after the dance of love. Explore the mystery of multiple orgasm for women and men.

There are also four appendices.

Appendix A: "Tools and Toys" looks at ancient and modern sex toys and aphrodisiacs for spicing up your love life, adding variety, stimulating your libido, getting and keeping rock hard erections, and experiencing orgasm in new ways.

In Appendix B: "Tantric Sex Practices: Reuniting Heaven and Earth" we help you learn that sexuality and spirituality can go together, that sexuality can be a spiritual experience. Find out how Tantric sex and the Kama Sutra are related to each other. Learn the ancient secret methods and practices of Tantric sex masters.

Appendix C: "The Ananga Ranga" introduces India's next best love guide. Find out how it compares with the Kama Sutra. Pick up a few more steamy sex poses.
Appendix D: "Recommended Books, Electronic Books, Audio-Visual, and Internet Resources" presents you with more resources so you can expand your exciting journey toward supercharged sex.

(c) A Note On The Translations

We've used three English language translations of the Kama Sutra in preparing this guide--by Richard Burton, Indra Sinha, and Alain Daniélou. When we quote from the text we most often use the Burton translation, of which there are many versions, so we simply refer to the section of the book and the chapter where the quote came from, like this (II-1), which means Part Two, Chapter 1. When we quote the other versions we give author name, section, chapter, and page number, like this (Daniélou II-1, p.99).

The lengendary Kama Sutra has long intrigued me but my attempts to read it has always proved unenlightening, sometimes dull, and often confusing. In my nearly 50 years, I have also tried reading various books that professed to explain the Kama Sutra for those of us bewildered by it. Those books either over-simplified or added new complexities! But this book -- maybe because it's written for "idiots!" -- finally, for me, provides the kinds of answers I've been craving. First, it is not a fat or heavy book, so I didn't feel like it would be the equivalent of some sort of academic tome. The chapters are broken down into sensible categories that I understood rather than approached with trepidation. Bottom line: this book is written in a style that's modern but preserves the ancient wisdom of many of the practices. I appreciated that because there is so much beauty in the Kama Sutra, and these authors respect that at all times. This book has truly demystified the Kama Sutra for me -- and given me information I am eager to try with my wife (who I am encouraging to read it next!). If you have a choice in Kama Sutra books, absolutely choose this one. It is clear concise, beautiful, and never condescending.

Very nice book, supercharged with very nice color photos that show it all.

This is actually a guide to all of sexuality that goes much farther than the Kama Sutra love positions.

It takes you all through the field of sexuality (versus Kama-Sutra) taking you by the hand (like if you were an idiot - most of us still are anyway in that matter) and showing you from A to Z how a real sexual life is to be lived without inhibitions for your greatest benefit.

Although this book is aimed at the practice of the love positions, it is also well documented by interesting theoric facts and grounded in the Indian Eastern philosophy - introduction is very interesting in that regard.

Well written and beautifully illustrated. All-star book !

This book is absolutely awesome. I am only a couple of chapters into it as now, but I can tell it's great. I leafed through it and I looked at the pictures. The photos are tasteful, and the couple is nice looking. There's a lot of stuff in it that I didn't know, so I know that I will be learning a thing or two from it. From all the Kama Sutra books, this one I think is the best. Years ago I tried to read the Danielou version(the complete one), but come on, who can read that one? This one cuts to the chase and in addition offers little "nuggets" of information about Indian society and their culture. I absolutely recomand it!

Not a translation but a cultural transposition, The Complete Idiot's Guide to Supercharged Kama Sutra is the best achievement I've seen in appropriating the insights of this ancient, aristocratic sexual manual for the needs and interests of contemporary Western readers. Link and Copeland's Kama Sutra unpacks the significance of the traditional work and its terminology, complemented with outstanding photo illustrations of a loving, sensual couple. In addition to the usual "Idiot's Guide" summaries of key information, the sidebars ("Love Bites") comprise witty, entertaining, and value-added insight. An inspiring, wonderful treasury!

This is a well written guide that stays true to the original Kama Sutra while delivering its wisdom in easy-to-understand prose. The writing is clear and humorous, the photos and illustrations are explicit but tasteful, and the book is well organized. This is a quality book, and I would recommend it as an excellent guide for beginners or even moderately experienced lovers who want to broaden their love lives. I had hoped it would provide more guidance on new positions, and I was a bit disappointed. We have tried all of these!

This book is in excellent taste, which helps both to quell any trepidation and to engross the reader in the subject matter. The author explains at the outset that this book is about "supercharged" love making with a very special partner, not just about killer sex. She elaborates on more than one occassion that it is the trust between the two partners and the desire to gratify the other person that makes all the difference.

She does an excellent job of describing positions and techniues (with tasteful photos included) and providing historical notes or informational references where appropriate. She also lets you know when a position is a variation on the Kama Sutra position and why (generally it's a matter of dexterity).

Even if you figure out you're not "a complete idiot" and actually know and use many of the positions and techniques, this book is still a wonderful way to "remember" the lovingness of your relationship and that being intimate doesn't only refer to sexual, or even physical, activity. Although this book describes most of the positions in the Kama Sutra (and the background on each), it is as much a book about being a loving "mate" and a "suductress/suducer" as it is about sexual positions.

I HIGHLY recommend this book!
