Having just recently gone through my own health issues with my thyroid, including a complete thyroidectomy and cancer treatment, I found this book very helpful. The book is written by a doctor and a "lay" person who has had his own thyroid problems, so you get the best of both worlds: a doctor of endocrinology who deals with thyroid disease as part of his practice and knows his stuff and a real person who can make the information readable and understandable. Not that the information is dumbed down, it is just assessable and if you have ever dealt with a doctor who only speaks medical-ease, you'll appreciate the approach that the authors use here. The only reason that the book is getting four stars rather than the full five is that I would have appreciated more information on dealing with life after a full thyroidectomy and the RAI cancer treatment. I felt that the book was geared more toward the patient who needs to take medication to adjust to their condition vs. patients who must undergo a complete thyroidectomy. With that said, this is still a terrific book for anyone dealing with thyroid problems.

This book is terrific. I found out so much about my thyroid and why I have been feeling the way I do. This book has a ton of information, obviously told by an authority on the subject with a real way with words. Thank you - thank you - thank you for making this truly easy to understand. I now realize the role of my thyroid in my health and what I need to do to get it back on track.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Reference Book For Every Household! February 21, 2011
Format:Paperback
This book is easy to read, simple to understand and answered more questions of concern for people I know who
suffer from Thyroid Disease than I originally thought I had. Symptoms are clearly addressed as valuable suggestions to alleviate them, make it
possible to have the symptoms subside or disappear.

I especially noticed that Thyroid Disease is addressed from many different perspectives. I've gained a more thorough
understanding and have greater responsibility around managing my own health and well-being from a complete and total perspective.

The Complete Idiots Guide provides the most comprehensive understanding of a dysfunction which plagues most men
and woman in their mid to later years. This is an asset for my library and a manual that I can reference for years to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive and Thorough, Very Enlightening November 18, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This book is so comprehensive and packed with so much information that this a book that you will be referring to time and time again as there just is so much here. In regards with the review on formatting, I had no issues whatsoever with formatting, but then again I can read and know how to use a kindle.

What makes this book work for me is the Glossary. Yes, even I had to stop to look up a few words like theanine and wakeme, which by the way is a seaweed that is an excellent source of iodine.

Another wonderful aspect of the book is in the availability of additional resources. This demonstrates a willingness by the authors that they really do care by offering as much information as they can. The Resource section is just as comprehensive as the rest of the book.

It is obvious that Dr. Alan Christianson and Hy Bender have put an exhaustive amount of time and research into this project. If there was only one book you could have, or should have on Thyroid Disease, this would be the one.

After reading this book, I have a new understanding and awareness. It has been extremely helpful in advancing my education and I am grateful for having bought this book. Thank You Dr. Christianson and Hy Bender!

This book was very easy to read and understand. Being a nurse, I still learned a ton of new information. My doctor was also impressed by the book and had to buy one himself. After two weeks I am starting to feel a little better, thanks to this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Informative and demystifying November 15, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Having lived for many years with an under-active thyroid, I have learned more about my condition from this book than I have from any doctor. I believe that we must all advocate for our own health and this book gives a great starting point to do just that. I for one have already initiated more comprehensive blood testing. Thanks to Dr. Alan Christianson and Hy Bender!
