5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for a newbie
I recently picked this book up to see if the mortgage industry was for me. After reading the book, I know that it's definitely for me. This book was extremely informative and I feel fairly prepared to get a job in the industry. I know that there is still much to learn about becoming a mortgage broker, but this book is definitely a start.

The book does not present a thorough "idiots" view of the mortgage broker business or career. Most parts of the book are thin with information and some parts approach useable information. Most uninitiated people who read this book will come away with a small sense of the mortgage business and will be discouraged. Any book on any subject should spark further interest and...

I read this book in search of supporting material for my training program. I own and operate a Mortgage Broker company. This is a nice compilation of material that explains the incredibly diverse role of the Mortgage Broker.

I recommend this book for anyone considering life as a Mortgage Broker or who may be off to a slow start.

I am not much of a reader at all, but this book is clear and to the point. If you are new to the mortgage industry this book will give you a good base of knowledge to get you started. It will not teach you all of the ins and outs, but will introduce you to terms and ideas essential for understanding what the heck you are talking about to clients. Some of the contents are a little more than the beginner needs to know, but you can easily bypass those parts. Overall a good book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Success in the increasingly complicated business of everyday life, June 12, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Success as a Mortgage Broker (Paperback)
Like me, you may find this book extremely helpful even if you're not considering a career as a mortgage broker. Here's why. I have a mortgage, I just refinanced my mortgage, and I'm sure someday I'll buy a new house and need another mortgage. This book explains in clear and easy-to-understand language the "terms" your real estate agent, mortgage broker, or banker use when presenting financing options to you. Think Economics 101 crossed with a primer on banking and personal finance. Everything from "What's in a credit report" to "Who the heck is Freddie Mac" is discussed and explained. There are lots of extras in this book for the average reader. There's an "Interest and Style" personality test in Chapter 4 that I found spot on and fun to take. There's even a chapter on PDAs, cell phones, and a great explanation on just what a "Bluetooth" is and why I should look for that feature on my next laptop. And if I ever decide to start a small business, this book is packed with helpful hints and information about developing a business plan, time management, and marketing. Add this book to your library; it will assist you in being successful in the increasingly complicated business of everyday life.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Broad Overview and Practical Tips, August 30, 2007
By
This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Success as a Mortgage Broker (Paperback)
This book is great. It gave me a broad overview of the mortgage industry and practical tips to get started as a mortgage broker. This book covers everything from are you the right person for this industry?, how to interpret financial indicators?, how to put all the success-proof components (knowledge, marketing, and technology) in motion?, what types of loans are available?, how to open your own shop when you are ready?, to even how to strike a work life balance? This is an easy read and I highly recommend it to anyone who might be interested in getting started in the mortgage industry.

Thanks Dan for writing such a valuable book.

As a real estate sales professional for almost twenty years, I know how important it is to work with a competent mortgage broker. Dan Kahn gives great insight into what it takes to become a success in the mortgage business - he lays it out from just getting started to getting ahead. This book is also a valuable reference tool for home buyers since it explains the mortgage process and its lingo. I found it an easy read and a book to keep for future reference.

The book does not present a thorough "idiots" view of the mortgage broker business or career. Most parts of the book are thin with information and some parts approach useable information. Most uninitiated people who read this book will come away with a small sense of the mortgage business and will be discouraged. Any book on any subject should spark further interest and encourage the reader, not discourage him. My recommendation is to get "The Mortgage Originator Success Kit," by Darrin Seppinni. It is well presented, thorough, and will take the reader to the next level. All the best to you.

5.0 out of 5 stars DANIEL KAHN REALLY OUT DID HIMSELF!!, August 21, 2007
This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Success as a Mortgage Broker (Paperback)
I've read several Mortgage Broker books in preparation of starting my own Mortgage Broker firm. I can sincerely state that this is the most concise and informative Mortgage Broker book I've read. Daniel not only breaks the Mortgage Industry down into layman terms, but he also provides his readers access to his personal business web site.

GREAT JOB DAN!!
