This is a beautifully illustrated, interesting book. Most rulers receive a 1-2 page treatment (although later monarchs have more pages dedicated to them) complete with ancestral charts, timelines, and other helpful additions to the main text. I'm sure this is meant as a coffee table or reference book, but I sat down, read it cover to cover, and then bothered my family and friends with all the facts I'd learned for the next month. A great book.

My 8-year-old history buff loved this book. He read it very carefully. As he was reading, he would get out other history books to read about whatever he was reading about in this book. When he finished this book, he bought a biography of Elizabeth I. He frequently goes back and refers to this book when reading other books about history. I highly recommend this book.

My 8-year-old Ben wrote this part of the review:

This book is a great reference of the king and queens and princes of England and Scotland. It tells you about all the kings and queens. I like the Tudors. I also like the Stuarts and the Normans. I love this book. I discovered the truth the abduction of Edward the eighth. Some were Catholic and some were Protestants. Right now is the Windsor dynasty. Some of the monarchy is bad and some is good. Parliament now controls England. There were pretenders to the throne.

For anyone interested in British royalty, it's history or any one of the many royal dynasties, this book will make an excellent adjunct source, if not for the written information, then certainly for the many paintings, illustrations and photographs.

While it does cover the various sects of royalty nearly completely, it leaves some pertinent information out, but only a historical scholar would notice. For the rest of us, this book does a great job of covering the subjects and many of the historical eras' happenings as well. There are a few special sections; Elizabethan Era, the American Revolution, The Victorian Era, Princess Diana, etc. These vignettes add a note of time and place to the lives of the royals and what they were dealing with during their reign.

I would highly recommend this book as an addition to any library as a quick reference guide. For more complete information about the rulers in-depth, readers might be interested in Thomas B. Costain's highly-readable series, most notably The Plantagenets.

I have been studying the reigns of Edward 1st to Charles 1st for many years now. While this is not a perfect edition or anything scholarly, it is a great and easy quick reference for anyone looking for a name, date, or battle location. I have seen other such books that have misinformation (for example, that King Henry V was the ancestor of the Tudors. Nope, just a great-uncle), but this gives some correct data in a way that is simple to look up. I use it for when someone springs a specific question on me (that date of someone's death, or example), but when you want to learn more specifics, go to an actual text on the individual. This is an excellent starting point.

Wonderful overview of the kings and queens of Britain. A beautifully illustrated, easy read. I bought this book for myself for Christmas and would not hesitate to buy it for a gift. Significant events of each reign and family trees are included along with paintings, engravings and maps. I love this book!

As a history buff I love reading about the crazy wonderful world of the royal families of Britain. This book is loaded with lots of information. It's not a lap book becase it is large, but it's fun to read sitting at a desk or table.

I could not be happier with this book! Tons of information! I've shown it off to a number of people and some have already ordered one for themselves. If you are working on your genealogy and find yourself in one or more of the royal lines, you will love this book!
