It Works,
By Bob Drum (Chicago) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Complete Guide to Internet Promotion for Artists, Musicians & Songwriters (Paperback)
What can I say. I have bought Tim Sweeney's Guide To Releasing Independent Records & The Living Room Sessions. Once I decided to follow what this guy said in his books and tapes, it worked. I have repressed three times. The new book works great. My site didn't do anything before. Sweeney shows you how to convert offline people into online traffic. Before I read the book I was getting a 1,000 hits a week, now I get 26,000 hits a week. What can I say, what the guy says works. I quit my day job.

Alright it works,
By Mike Timlin (New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Complete Guide to Internet Promotion for Artists, Musicians & Songwriters (Paperback)
I'm a musician in New York. The worst music city in the country. That makes me skeptical of everything. When I emailed web sites like Amazon, CD Baby, MP3.com, everyone gave me ideas of what to do. All of them said use Tim Sweeney's new internet book. So I bought a copy. Still being skeptical, I tried some of the stuff in the book. All I can say is that it worked. I'm selling 24 CDs a week through my site and my sales on Amazon and CD Baby are up about 25%. I don't feel like I have even tried half the stuff in the book. This guy made a beliver out of me. I'm buying the rest of his books to see what else I can learn from him.

Disappointment,
By jon (California) - See all my reviews

Usually Sweeny's books are good, however this one touches on stuff that has been covered over and over. I found maybe 2 things that were semi useful.Needless to say I was completely disappointed. I wish that once in my life that I could find a Music Business book that covers fresh material. Sorry Tim but I have to pass on this one.

Well worth the money!,

This book is incredible! Before I read it, I had no clue how to use the Internet for getting my music out there. I am pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to understand and has tons of examples, resources, and even a checklist to help me keep track of my promotion campaign. The best thing about this book is that will never be out dated like other Internet books, because their web site has updates to the checklist and chapters. This is THE book if you want to get your music online. Well worth the money!

Overrated and overhyped,
By Nancy Sturgeon (Los Angeles, California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Complete Guide to Internet Promotion for Artists, Musicians & Songwriters (Paperback)
I bought this book thinking it might finally offer some new ideas or quality support for productively using the internet to sell music. After getting it, I was once again disappointed. Sure, there are a few tidbits here and there, but very little that will help someone who is already selling 40-50 CD's a week to improve much on that. Some ideas are downright ridiculous and dated. Has this author bought the internet hype that has most dot coms out of business or barely hanging on? It seems so. Perhaps this was a good read a year ago when people believed the absurd hype of the net. Now it is just ho hum.

A dose of reality,

You can always tell when another guy who wrote a book writes a fake review in the testimonials. They always say the other book isn't any good and refer to theirs. Obviously this is the case with the other books pitched in the earlier reviews. I used this book after Sweeney's other book, Guide To Releasing Independent Records. His first book got me a distribution deal and a payment of $25,000 from using it. This book has started to help too. I have sold 306 CDs so far this year from my site that I start in March. I followed the section in the book on how to get people from your live shows to your site and it works. At $10 profit per CD sold on my site, the $30 bucks I spent on this book made me over $3,000. I would suggest you buy a copy and stop paying attention to the other self promoting idiots who wrote books and never worked with a band in their life!

A Good Guide,
This review is from: The Complete Guide to Internet Promotion for Artists, Musicians & Songwriters (Paperback)
I wasted so much money on worthless internet books. Sweeney's book sounds just like his workshops. He lays out what you need to do in straight forward terms. I would highly suggest this guy's book especially when at his Las Vegas workshops he predicted what internet music sites and companies would fail and why and then when I looked at my notes recently he was exactly right. Use this book with the articles in his free newsletter.

Definately a "complete" guide,

This book opened my eyes to more ways of getting the word out online than just putting my MP3s in a bunch of overhyped music sites. Companion web site has a lot of free articles and audio tips too.

not worth it,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Complete Guide to Internet Promotion for Artists, Musicians & Songwriters (Paperback)
Not worth the money. I highly recommend you avoid this title and check out something else, like BUZZ YOUR MP3 by Brian Freeman or HOW I MAKE $100,000 by David Hooper. This just wasn't worth the money and the hype isn't worth believing. Sorry cholly.
