In my area, we don't have a local Kayak Shop to rely on for information, advice, and guidance. This book does all of that and more if you are interested in the sport of kayak fishing!

Whether you are a novice or an experienced yak fisherman, this book is a great read to make you an even better kayaker. It reads as if you are talking with a pro inside a kayak shop. It was so informative and laid out in such a way, that I highlighted stuff in my personal copy! This will help me find key knowledge later after I am through reading it. My personal highlighting is also complimented by a great index by the author to find those "juicy" tid-bits.

This book helped me choose gear, install accessories, and learn some great techniques & safety principles. Although he does not say this is the best kayak, piece of gear, etc., he guides you to some better brands and helps you make knowledgeable choices by imparting his own experience and expertise. He tells you what to look for, what to avoid, and encourages you to not make the mistakes he made (i.e. going cheap the first go around - only to buy more pricey (better) stuff later, thus costing you more.)

He compliments this by brining in subject matter experts from companies that produce paddles, kayaks, GPS systems, etc. This is a BIG PLUS! Hear it from him.....hear it from those who make/develop this stuff!!!

I love the underlying theme woven throughout the book - SAFETY & BEING PREPARED! Being a Boy Scout leader, these two principles are near and dear to my heart!

I definitely give this book a 5 star rating - it is a must read for any kayak fisherman. My son will be obligated to read it before he assumes control of his new yak received at Christmas. Ric Burnley's book is fantastic! Throughout this well written book he carefully describes in detail all things relevant to choosing, rigging, paddling, and fishing with a heavy emphasis on safety. Clearly the best kayak book I've read and since I'm new to this sport I've read several that don't come close to explaining facets of the game that both beginners and advanced yak fishermen will need to know. My only criticism is that when describing regional differences, there is absolutely no mention of kayak fishing in Hawaii, which can be a different challenge althogether. We have a rapidly growing kayak fishing community out here and it was completly overlooked.

A very well written book and a must have for anyone just starting out in the sport.All the subjects that appear on the various discussion boards are addressed with good illustrations and clear directions.

This book is fine for someone who primarily fishes saltwater and wants to modify their kayak. I intend to buy a fishing kayak pretty much all set up and I'm primarily a freshwater fisherman so I didn't find the book as helpful as I would have liked. That's not taking away from the author or the book. There is some good basic information about personal flotation devices and other safety features that anyone can use. Not sure what I expected to find. Maybe my expectations were all wrong.

Overall it was a good book if I read it a year and a half ago when I got into the sport. Now most of it information that I already know. Kinda simple too. there are a lot of forums that would supplement what was said in this book.

If you are into the sport even in the littlest amount dont waste your time.

This would be the perfect gift for a younger person you are trying to get into the sport though...

Since I'm a newbie to this Kayak Fishing thing, this book was very informative. If you've done some kayak fishing, it won't tell you a tremendous amount you don't already know. It is very informative about how to configure your kayak and also paddle it. There's quite a bit about where to fish on a regional basis at the end of the book. I'd recommend this book to anyone that's thinking about taking up fishing from a kayak.

If you are thinking about taking up the growing sport of Kayak fishing I highly recommend you read this book. It is most useful in descrbing appropriate and necessary equipment and safe kayaking methods and procedures. I have spent many hours fishing out of a Kayak and there are many things that can go wrong. This book will help you to fish in safety and comfort, and of course to catch more fish !

This is a great guide for someone getting into this sport. I was very impressed with how complete it was and I devoured it from cover to cover. I learned a great deal, especially about clothing selections for cold weather kayak fishing. The only think I think could have been a little more complete, was the information on the specifics of rigging fishing rods to catch fish. (what line, hook, bait, lures, weight, etc.) There is a small section in the back of the book which glosses over some of the different types, and this is the reason I only gave the book 4 stars. I understand that Kayak fishing includes a variety of fresh water and salt water fishing, and an entire book or books could be written on this subject alone, but there was very little information at all about rigging. Apart from this minor drawback, the book is excellent. If you want to take what you know about fishing, and apply it to fishing from a kayak, this is the book for you.

I feel that the info' in this book will at least stop me from looking stupid when I get out on the water. The info' on the anchor was very useful but I had to go to another place to find out how to rig the anchor so that it wouldn't get caught permanently on some bad thing down at the bottom.
