Lila McCann Releases "Mighty Mighty" CD!,
By
This review is from: Complete (Audio CD)
In 1997, fifteen year old Lila McCann exploded onto the country music scene with her debut album LILA. Two years later, she followed it up with her sophomore release SOMETHING IN THE AIR, a CD celebrating the pleasures of young love. Now just five months away from her twentieth birthday, Lila is back with her third album, COMPLETE, a "breathtaking, earthshaking" album that is sure to go off, in the immortal words of track #6, "like a rocket."A lot has happened to Lila in the last two years: her first two albums went gold and platinum respectively, she toured two summers in a row to promote her music, and she graduated from high school, and will never again walk the line between high school student and country star. COMPLETE is a reflection of all these changes and more. For the first time, Lila's music showcases a new, more grown up side of her talent. Her once youthful voice is now lush, mature, and riveting to hear, especially on the albums gorgeous ballads, like "Complete," "She Remembers Love," and "Whisper the Words." At the same time, however, the album shows Lila's ability to sing uptempo, fun songs such as "Like A Rocket," "Come A Little Closer," and "Is It Just Me." The album also allows Lila opportunites to show off her amazing vocal stylings, especially on "Where It Used to Break" and "Mighty Mighty Love." Every song is better than the last, and upon the closing of the album's final track, "Because of You," the listener will be left with nothing but the aching need to press the play button and hear the whole thing again. If you thought SOMETHING IN THE AIR and LILA were great, COMPLETE is a must for your CD collection. Over the past two years, Lila has done an excellent job of establishing herself as one of country music's most talented stars, and after hearing this incredible album, it is safe to say that her star is long from fading away.

Appropriately Titled,
By Chris S. "cscotts" (atlanta, ga United States) - See all my reviews

With her first album in two years, Lila McCann is poised for the overdue commercial breakout she has justly deserved, thanks in large part to an uniformly superb album. While her first two records had some strong material, the overall consistency wasn't there through the entire record. If there's nothing here that conjures the thrill of her first single 'Down Came A Backbird', there's still plenty of great stuff to sink into. While the first single 'Come A Little Closer' is good stuff, the rest of the album outperforms it by a mile, chiefly opening track 'Where It Used To Break', and her command of ballads here far outweighs her previous work in that arena, ably demonstrated on the title track and the album's highlight, 'Whisper The Words'. While she may not have the far-reaching vocal range of Leann Rimes or even Jessica Andrews, her singing is nonetheless superb, bouncing back and forth between playful and passionate and not missing a beat. For those who love either of the aforementioned girls, get this album--it far outweighs recent output from either of them(the recent Jessica Andrews album was unjustly overrated, even by me). Highly recommended.

THE NEXT SHANIA,
By Kent Miller (Rock Rapids, Iowa) - See all my reviews

This is one of the most complete CD's I have ever purchased, which makes the title of this disc perfect. Lila, I would have to say is one of the most underated artists in country music. Her voice is strong and full of life, and she is definately not hard on the eyes. The track Come A Little Closer rates right up there with some of Shania Twain and Faith Hill's best. The track that caught my attention however is the ballad Whisper The Words. One listen to that track and you would swear you were listening to an angel sing. The CD is fresh from start to finish and never gets old with repeated listenings. Lila is the next big thing in music and has definate crossover potential. Lila McCann-Complete is a must have in any CD library.
